Major static from headphone jack on macbook pro

When I connect my macbook pro to my AMP directly I get major interference to the speakers (like major)... when I move the cable to my ipod dock to the amp no issue... I'm not using a DAC and wan't to avoid purchasing one.. What's the issue?

 

It's a new 13.3 macbook pro..

Ground loop or something like this? The headphone out is crap anyways.

should I get something like apogee duet or a DAC? I don't want to play off my ipod doc, I want to play from my computer. and I really don't want to spend more $$

If you don't want to spend more $$ then you can't buy a DAC... Anyways do you use the extension cord with the laptop's power brick or it goes directly into the power outlet? Before I got a DAC I plugged my MBP into an amp, too, and had "hum" when I didn't use the extension cord for the power brick.

how about I buy a airport express and connect it to the amp... it's reasonably priced..?
