MQA The Truth lies Somewhere in the Middle

Archimago should simply go by the name of Lord Charles Albert. For all I know, he could be a woman. Then, no one would dare criticise his writing.

It's probably @cookiemarenco who did the analysis.  Certainly she can't be a fan of MQA ?

Yet you said you the below that you did honor it so you clearly didn't feel that strong about it.  Right?

Please don't put words in my mouth. I was asked to honor the preexisting agreement that Tom Gillett would continue to contribute to Stereophile using a pseudonym. I gave my word to Stereophile founder, J. Gordon Holt, and Stereophile's then-publisher, Larry Archibald, that I would do so. When Tom Gillett resigned at the end of 2014, that was the end of my commitment.

Exactly, you still allowed it.

This is all laughable ... particularly because everything that needs to be known about “deblurring” in every axis was developed decades ago... and trust me our universities & national labs & govt’s ability to deblur data in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s was vastly better than the MQA child’s play — that’s why they don’t want to open up the technology to be exposed to ... loud yawning & snoring from the audience.

Hi,

In fact reverse of dispersion was known by Newton.

https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/171146/is-it-possible-to-implement-the-reversed-dispersion-of-a-white-light-beam-and-ho

What MQA are claiming is that they know the dispersal characteristics of every cable/mic/ADC etc., and applied the algorithm to perfectly reverse dispersion of each track. I do not believe that their system can do this. All it can do is perform an approximation.

Regards,

Shadders.

incidentally can anyone (@Mansr?) tell me whether they have been able to reproduce archimago's findings with the hole in the spectrum for the bruno mars track?

It is trivially done with just about any MQA track. Here's a graph I posted on this site about a year ago:

and oh... I have no opinion on MQA...  I can't find anyone to actually encode our music to test what it does.  :)

It was a joke. I have no doubt your laundry is slowly aerated by the warm embrace of a Pacific zephyr and is not manipulated in any manner unbecoming of its virtue. Mine's done by a lovely Polish girl called Anna.

believe most seasoned presenters would ask that questions and comments be saved for after the presentation.  The fact that Mics were passed around during the presentation suggests that he was open to an open discussion, so i don't believe those that spoke up should be chastised as rude simply for asking questions during the presentation because Chris "allowed" it.

It's a good point but I wonder if the MQA staff would have chimed in regardless if a microphone was offered to the audience from the start. Maybe Chris predicted this.

This controversy will likely end up being great for both the presenter and MQA.

Sorry if I’m being thick but is that the same  phenomenon as the Bruno Mars track which looks as though someone has taken a bite out (around 22kHz?)
