Don't know about android apps but if you go to a computer on the network, open your browser and go to volumo.local. Once volumo opens at the bottom click the browse tab. In there you will see various options. Go to "Folders" and you should be able to navigate to your attached Music HD. I would think that using wifi would do the same so I have wifi turned off, I believe, in my digione. In my set up, my music hard drive is connected to my "music server" lap top. I use Audirvana player on the server laptop as my music player. Audirvana automatically sees the digione as a upnp device on the network. Both the laptop and digione are hardwired to a network switch. Because you can increase sound quality adjusting audirvana settings this set up has worked out best for me. I have directly compared my set up to plugging the music drive directly into the digione, either usb stick or external HD, and using Volumio, or moode as the music player software and its hands down better streaming the music file to the digione via audirvana. Also I have found using Volumio as the OS for the digione is the most musical compared to Moode and Dietpi. I also use Baaske filters ( http://baaske-medical.de/en/isolation/ethernet-isolation/?p=1) where the respective network cables enter the switch, the laptop and the digione. You can get them used on ebay for around $50. YMMV. rruffin and quanghuy147 1 1 System: Fedilizer Pro>Pareto Audio Server with both Audiolinux (Roon) and W10 (Audirvana Studio) OS's, currently using W10 (control via remote desktop with laptop)> Original (2015) Sonore Signature Series, BNC/SPDIF > Yggdrasil A2 > Pass Labs XA100 Monoblocks > Triton Reference Speakers (modified) >Tweeked CiscoSG110D-08 LAN Switch. Popular Post Boleary3
Its really very easy. As long as the Digione is seen on the network, Audirvana, running on a separate computer also on the network, automatically sees the digione and gives you the option of selecting it as a upnp audio output device. So if you are using Volumio you can check that the digione is on the network by going to www.volumio.local on a browser from any computer on the network and the Volumio GUI should load on that computer's screen. The Audirvana output option for choosing volumio appears on the lower tight hand corner of the Audirvana GUI. You can either select the onboard soundcard of that computer or you can select "Volumio" which is what you would choose. Also, in Audirvana you need to select your external music drive (or NAS) connected to the Audirvana computer to be part of Audirvana's music library. Once you've selected "Volumio" as the output device in Audirvana, when you play a track it is then "streamed" to the digione for playback. Another thing to remember is to select "software volume control" in both Volumio and Audirvana settings if you don't use a pre-amp. That's how mine is set up. I then use the Volumio volume control which changes by tenths of a decibel in Audirvana. Can really dial in "perfect volume" for any track. Be careful with this: if you haven't set up software voluime control and play a track it will play at full volume which is never any fun. I can send screen shots of various settings when I get home from work. Might be easier by email to send the screen shots. Let me know. I also use a comcast wireless extender in my audio room, which is on the 3rd floor. I hard wire a network cable from the extender to a cisco network switch, and also hard wire the Digione and Audirvana computor to that same network switch. Boleary3
Glad it has worked for you folks. I have not tried the EtherRegen but it does have the same purpose as the Basske filter. I first tried the Basske on the Digione with good results. I then tried one on the cisco ethernet switch with good results there. I then put one on the line from the switch to the Audirvana/PC, and again had good results. I purchased the Basske filters used on ebay for about $50 each. quanghuy147 1 System: Fedilizer Pro>Pareto Audio Server with both Audiolinux (Roon) and W10 (Audirvana Studio) OS's, currently using W10 (control via remote desktop with laptop)> Original (2015) Sonore Signature Series, BNC/SPDIF > Yggdrasil A2 > Pass Labs XA100 Monoblocks > Triton Reference Speakers (modified) >Tweeked CiscoSG110D-08 LAN Switch. Popular Post Boleary3
Matt, in my setup you cannot independently compare Volumio to Audirvana volume control. That's because they become one volume control, meaning if you change the value of one it automatically changes the volume value of the other. Though I don't know for certain which is actually the "master" control, my guess is that that is Audirvana. What I have compared is using Volumio as the playback software vs. Audirvana as the playback software with both of their respective libraries using the external hard drive attached to the Audirvana/laptop. I was able to do this by making the external hard drive a shared device on the network using Windows Explorer. Volumio then sees the external hard drive as a NAS. In this configuration Volumio alone sounds very good but not quite as smooth sounding as Audirvana. I have not tried a good analog control, though I did try a cheap ($50) passive control from Schiit. It was noisy and not as good as software volume. Theoretically a good analog control could be better because using software volume, so I'm told, changes the bits of the track being played so that it is no longer bit perfect. However, that entails another component in the chain and another set of interconnects.I have no idea how those trade offs work out but I'm very satisfied with my current sound. Also the Volumio app works great on my iphone for changing volume and for going to the next track. Audirvana's app works well too but it uses a slider for volume contro;l which I just don't like using. Using the apps means I don't have to use the Audirvana/PC to control volume while listening. Boleary3
I don't think the Basskes are directional but you could try reversing it to see if you hear a difference. Regarding Audirvana not seeing the Digione, the only time I've had issues is when the Digione is not seen on the network and I have to reboot the Digione player. I do remember a time when I had to open Audirvana before opening the Volumio GIU or Audirvana would not see the Digione. This went away when I updated Audirvana. I don't think the "Scan Folder" button makes any difference to the process of the Digione being seen by Audirvana. Hope this helps. Boleary3
Takes the digione sig a couple of weeks of burn in. Also the type of SPDIF cable makes a significant difference. rruffin 1 System: Fedilizer Pro>Pareto Audio Server with both Audiolinux (Roon) and W10 (Audirvana Studio) OS's, currently using W10 (control via remote desktop with laptop)> Original (2015) Sonore Signature Series, BNC/SPDIF > Yggdrasil A2 > Pass Labs XA100 Monoblocks > Triton Reference Speakers (modified) >Tweeked CiscoSG110D-08 LAN Switch. Boleary3
I found the Digione Signature mounted atop the USB Signature Bridge to sound significantly better than the stand alone Digione in the plastic case. Also, I prefer the Digione output over the USB output of the Bridge.
