Firewire to AES Interface

Recommended Posts

Firstly I would just like to say hello, and be gentle because I am an old chuffer, I am trying to play some hi-res downloads ( Reference recordings 176.4 24 bit on their HrX discs ) Chris C has alrady been a tremendous help ( thanks Chris ) , I am still investigating the PC Lynx16aes route, but a friend has a Mac Book Pro, and I would like to experiment with that, I believe I need a firewire /AES interface, Chris suggested either a Weiss Vesta ( due out soon ) or a Weiss Minerva DAC ( completely sold out at the moment ) are there any ther suitable products out there ? Thanks in advance, Keith.

You could try the Weiss AFI1, this is the pro version of the Vesta. I have not tried it yet with High Res file though ...

It may not have the expensive fit and finish of a "High End" product, but it does its job well.

I am new to Mac and this is the first Pro audio gear I buy.

However, setup was really easy ... Good luck.

Hieu Hi ,may I ask do you use yours to play hi-res files from your MAC, this is my main goal, I have some 'reference recording' HrX discs, desperate to hear them, had a bit of a set back with a Lynx 16 based PC ( just couldn't get it to work ) hoping the Mac will ( work ) an be straightforward straight out of the box,

Regards Keith.

Hi,

I am sorry, I can't help you.

I will try High Res files when I have a capable Dac.

I am looking for a nice High Res Dac to replace my old combo Genesis Digital lens / modded Stax Dac.

Sorry ...

  • 9 months later...

I realise that this is an old post, but felt it might still be relevant to some people...

The Weiss AFI1 works perfectly at these sample rates and passes HDCD-encoded material through correctly (at all sample rates). It's very easy to use... and sounds superb!

But, it only inputs/ouputs AES and ADAT formats, i.e. no RCA or BNC connectors for the signal (it does have BNCs or word clock in/out, which I find invaluable).

Hope this helps,

Mani.
