Official Qobuz Issues Thread

@Cebolla Thanks for that information. I wasn't able to get the Qobuz app/OpenHomePlayer combo to work but I'm wondering if my network configuration is to blame so I plan to give this some effort.

It's unlikely your network configuration is to blame, unless it has an issue with UPnP device discovery.

First things to establish before even contemplating using the Android Share feature on the Qobuz app (with your chosen OpenHome controller app):

- Which of the two OpenHome controller Android apps (ie, either BubbleUPnP or BubbleDS Next) have you chosen to use in your setup?

- Are you able to select the OpenHome Player with your chosen OpenHome controller app?

- Have you connected to your Qobuz account with its highest audio quality in your chosen OpenHome controller app configuration settings?

- Have you tested that your chosen OpenHome controller app can actually get the OpenHome Player to play tracks from Qobuz?

Note:

The OpenHome Player's OpenHome renderer is configured with the device name 'XXX:SoftPlayer' by default, where 'XXX' is the network name of rhe computer you've installed it on. It also comes with a standard UPnP renderer named 'XXX:UPnP AV' by default.

Both renderers should appear on the BubbleUPnP Android app, as it supports both OpenHome & standard UPnP - so make sure you select choose the correct renderer, if BubbleUPnP is your chosen OpenHome controller app.

BTW, this won't be an issue with the BubbleDS Next app as it is only supports OpenHome.

I was using my Chromecast Audio to stream some audio files using the Android Qobuz app as control point. Playback had around 0.5 second gaps between tracks (Ravel Daphnis et Chloe which has continuous music spanning tracks). I know this issue has been there forever, but is anyone aware whether Qobuz are doing anything to fix this? Roon is able to stream to Chromecast Audio absolutely gaplessly, so it seems to be doable.

Hi,

Qobuz Android App (for Chromecast) and Qobuz Google Cast App are in the process of being corrected.

The Chromecast devices do not support gapless playback when asked to stream discrete consecutive audio file tracks from a playlist and currently the only solution seems to be to decode & (gaplessly) play the file tracks in the playlist first and supply the Chromecast devices with the resulting continuous audio output stream from the playback instead.

Given that supplying its built-in player's audio output (as opposed to the actual individual audio file tracks themselves) for network streaming is already the Roon Core Server's modus operandi, it's easy to see why it can get Chromecast devices to 'play' gaplessly.

Thanks, Cebolla, I am aware of that. It looks like Qobuz will simply have to do something similar as Roon (obviously at their server end, not in the Android app). Should not be rocket science.

A simple question I hope.

I have discovered various playlists on Qobuz that I like but ideally I would add some of my own favourites to them and perhaps remove a few that are of less interest to me. So I don't want to change the original. Ideally I would like to be able to copy  and paste/rename it into my own version which I can then edit. Or is the only way to do this to recreate it one by one. The playlists I am talking about are over 200 tracks long and if there is a way to simply copy rename or any shortcut anyone knows about it would be handy. Thanks.

Edit  - probably should have mentioned that the ones I am referencing are mostly from other subscribers but it would be handy on any Qobuz playlist TBH

In the desktop app for MacOS you can mark your desired titles in a playlist, then right click on the selection and choose "add to playlists". Then you can choose from the set of playlists you have created before and thus copy the selected titles to the end of your (new) playlist.

Thanks, that's the way. We have on the back log the ability to directly copy / clone a playlist. This feature will happen one day

Ahhhh - now I feel a bit silly for not discovering that. I wasn't clicking on the tracks in the playlist window because I thought that would just start it playing and I was already listening to something else. I have given it a quick test and that works perfectly on the Windows app too. So cool and I suspect I will be using this quite a lot now.

Thanks

Thanks for confirming David and good to hear it will be enhanced later but that is fine for me as it is.

Really looking forward to the UpnP fixes so that I can push playlists directly to my Linn DS but realise that you guys have things to do right now. Please keep us posted on likely dates for this and if you ever need testers let me know.

One thing on the upnp thing I noticed the other day having idly tried it again just to see if by some fluke it would work.

I went to Kazoo (which is the Linn DS control app) and watched the Kazoo screen while selecting the DS in the Qobuz app. The DS changes from whatever it was and shows UPnp but sits there 'stopped'. If I click on the play button (repeatedly) it flashes up the right track album cover but immediately stops - I never hear anything.

Wondered if knowing that helps your programmers or not. Perhaps you already know what the issue is. As you will know there is already Linn/Qobuz integration within Kazoo and so Qobuz works fine on the DS that way but it is the Qobuz 'app experience' that we miss out on which I really like.

Anyway - thanks again.

Indeed - though you need to login with a Google account even to view Google's current issue tracker. That issue, "Add true gapless playback support to Chromecast Audio", was first created on the openly viewable, but now defunct google-cast-sdk user group's issue tracker, as issue #745 - a copy of which is still available on github.com:

https://github.com/will1971/google-cast-sdk/issues/745

Interestingly, that issue's creator/OP (referred to as '@pujos') is none other than @bubbleguuum, developer of the BubbleUPnP & BubbleDS Next apps.

Since issue #36190694 (or #745 in the old issue tracker) was unfortunately closed by Google with no further action, someone else created a similar issue, "Gapless playback is still unsupported for lossless content", which remains open:

https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/36191370

BTW, I believe that currently the only application that both supports Qobuz access & can get Chromecast devices to 'play' gaplessly is the Logitech Media Server with the Chromecast bridge 3rd party LMS plugin (requires the Flow transcode option to be set).

We have a good idea of what we need to do to make UPnP work on our applications. I hope we can focus on it soon enough. This is not an easy task but I hope we can propose some functional things at the beginning of the year.

Excellent - in which case you should now be able to try the Qobuz app with the OpenHome Player using the Android Share feature via the BubbleDS Next app!

First make sure that you have selected the OpenHome Player and are logged into your Qobuz account in the BubbleDS Next app. You can now use the Android Home icon/button to come out onto the Android Home screen to run the Qobuz app - the BubbleDS Next app will still be running in the background.

Nativgate as normal on the Qobuz app to whatever music you are interested in playing on the OpenHome Player. By using the album's/playlist's/track's horizontal three dot options icon, you can bring up the options menu to access the Android Share feature in order to send the relevant track link(s) to the BubbleDS Next app's current playlist, which once received will also automatically get the Bubble DS Next app to command the OpenHome Player to start playing the track(s).

You'll need to scroll down the options menu to get to the Share option. Selecting the Share option will then bring up the Share menu, allowing you to select the BubbleDS Next app as the app you want to 'share' the relevant track link(s), which will send the track link(s) to the BubbleDS Next app.

Once the track link(s) are copied, the BubbleDS Next app will appear in the foreground, allowing you to manually control the playback. To get back to the Qobuz app where you left, use the Android Current Apps icon/button.

Admittedly, it isn't perfect and may be a bit too klunky to use for some. It would help if the Qobuz app would remember the last accessed app when using the Android Share feature (like the Chrome web browser app does) to avoid the Share menu selection step being required every time.

BTW, if you liked using the BubbleDS Next app in its own right,  you might want to try the Linn Kazoo app as an alternative OpenHome cotroller app to use with the OpenHome Player. Note that unlike the BubbleDS Next app,  Linn Kazoo can't be used with Qobuz app as it doesn't support the Android Share feature.

Great news. If BubbleUPnP and mConnect can work it out, I am very confident Qobuz engineers can also do it!

Looking forward to it.

Chromecast Audio and 24/96 is a mess too...  It hasn't worked since around July. Google have acknowledged there is an issue too:

@David Craff have Qobuz been in contact with Google about this? If so, can you share if they are even working on a fix?

24/96 streaming to Chromecast Audio from the Qobuz app is not possible - and we don't know if it will ever be fixed.

I've called Google Support and they said they can't comment if a fix will come or not. Very helpful.

Unusually I encountered stuttering problems while streaming 24 bit albums on Saturday evening (UK - 24 Nov) and just wondered if anyone else had anything similar. I do this all the time without any issue and these were 24/44.1 files rather than something heavy like 24/192.  I had been playing Qobuz music for 3 or 4 days for the daylight hours prior to this and there was no local bandwidth issues (I checked speeds and also watched a streamed movie shortly after. The song was stuttering  to the point that I had to go to the 16 bit version which then worked.

is it a known service blip or issue that others encountered? Seems fine this morning.

Me, I have contacted Qobuz service several times because of this issue, for months.

I just got THIS reply every time:

---

...  we have received your message. We thank you for your detailed description.

First, we recommend that you restore Chromecast (ie drag Chromecast out of all sockets and all connected devices)

We would like to know if you have checked your Wi-Fi connection? (Disable / Enable)? Does this issue occur in CD quality?
?

If there are still problems, please contact us again.

Greetings from Paris

-----

So I finally gave it up.

I'm a Sublime+ subscriber, Germany, just using CD quality with Chromecast  :(

Hi,

Yes we have been in contact  with Google for this issue. A new firmware is available or soon (I don't know the deployment rules).

Furthermore Qobuz we will soon launch the new Google Cast interface. This one will use the latest version of the Google SDK.

Only last Android App can use the new Google Cast interface. IOS and Desktop will be update soon.

Regards
