Here's a fun way to get many of them: in a Qobuz app, search for "hi-res", then at the upper right of the Albums results click "See all albums". You will then have a list of albums with "(Hi-Res version)", "(96/24 Hi Res Stereo)", etc. in their titles.

Qobuz should add a one-click Hi-Res category, just as Tidal has a so-called Masters category. (Messy, but at least it's there). Searching for "hi-res" does not return a complete list, but it's a lot to scroll through. Page after page of random Hi-Res albums. Sometimes it hesitates a moment before loading more, but eventually the list goes on and on.

I get different results in the desktop and mobile apps, except both lists begin with a Daft Punk album I may have sampled the first time I tried this. Interesting. OK, back to work...

Hi,

Thanks for this feedback, I will think of this to add a filter for Hi-Res result only.

Can you explain me the different result between Desktop and Mobile APP ?

Back to my original post that was merged into this thread.  Am I understanding that the Audirvana included free trial only includes 30 second excerpts?  And then I see it comes up as 320kbps even if listed at hi-res?  That doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth.

I just downloaded the Mac app to see if maybe it was Audirvana but I get the same in the native app.

If you have an account without plan you can try Qobuz to 320kbps and only sample tracks.

I'm not sure about the offer with Audirvana, I will look at this and go back to you

@David Craff:  Do you have a plan for converting US customers who have a French or British Qobuz account to a US account?

We can easily change the country streaming and store for an account. But the rights with major and label are differents for country. They are nearly the same for europe but not for USA. The goal is to get the same deep music content for all country.

Hi Guys - I met with Qobuz this afternoon at CEDIA. Dan and David were great. I really understand now that Qobuz comes from music lovers whereas all other services come from techies. I fall into both camps (techie music lover) but can really see the music roots in Qobuz when using the service.

Good stuff to come.

Thanks for this feedback and thanks to Dan and David

The display of search results is very crude in Qobuz.

Example: I search for Leonard Cohen.

The resulting list beyond the search field says: 168 albums.

But i can't believe the sheer number of hits. I don't know how they are counted.

Then the albums found are displayed in a wild chaos.

Not only Leonard Cohen albums are listed, but every artist who has ever made a cover album is mixed up with Leonard Cohen.

I would like to have a display like with the current Tidal app, where studio albums, compilations, live albums and EPs/Singles are grouped together (and preferably i could choose the sort order). Cover albums should be grouped separately from original artist albums.

As it is now, it looks very chaotic.

I'm agree with you. This artist is a good example. Actually we display album where the artist is the main artist or the main composer. But they can be mistake. Some project are in progress to clear the catalog.

I keep your feedback for the artist page and the different album's section.

Can I get a trial in the USA while keeping my account in France?  This would give me a period of time to compare availability of material and decide whether I want to change my account to a USA account.  If the pricing in the USA isn't any better than paying in euros I probably wouldn't bother.  I'd imagine for the classical genre that the USA catalog is going to be smaller than the European one ... is that a correct assumption?

The best way to test the USA account and catalogue is to create another account with out streaming plan. But I need to confirm is you can see all the music catalog even it can't be listen or if we will display only music available for the country.

Also you can ask to our support to get a trial streaming plan period to test Qobuz for USA.

So we will display all our music catalog and music not available will be show but in another color (grey) and you can listen only sample if available.

Yes I'm familiar with that approach and it's very frustrating to open an album and find that none of the tracks (or maybe just one track) is available.  It would be better not to show the album or at least have an option to exclude such albums from the search results.  Nobody with a HiFi subscription wants to listen to MP3 samples.

This is not so easy because even you can't listen to this album, you can get information of tracks, description, buy it, add it to favorite etc...

Sometime this album is not available for streaming but if you buy it you can stream it after. So it's better to view the album than hide it.

Maybe we can alert before clicking on album is there no tracks streamable. (lighter cover, tag or other)

I am getting a Qobuz "error 500" this evening.

Seems like it might be a server issue. I can get to other sites just fine.

Any ideas?

Hi,

We have made updates to our servers that have resulted in some disruption. You should not have any more problems now.

Yes, you would prefer people thinking "OK, I can buy this if I want it," rather than "What do you mean I can't stream it?"

I have no preference, I try to find the best compromise for users. We may add this feature but we have to do it intelligently.

It should not be forgotten that Qobuz is also a platform for buying dematerialized music and that the rights to listen to an album are at the discretion of the rights holders (Label, Major, Artist...). We therefore have to juggle the expectations of our customers (with multiple profiles) and the issues related to this sector.

Qobuz needs to communicate with its subscribers.  If you plan to make changes that may disrupt service, tell us.  If you then outperform and manage to make the changes without disruption everyone will be happy.

TIDAL never communicated with subscribers and made a real mess transitioning their CDN.  That's how they lost me to Qobuz 3 years ago.  Don't make the same mistake.

Hi,

I'm agree with you, we need to make lot's of progress in communication with customers. I'll see what I can do about it for our desktop  application.

Hi David,

Yes, I recognize this is a balancing act. Do you have a sense for how much of your customer base is (or will be) purchase-only? Compared to streaming-only and streaming+purchase? Since all the (Qo) buzz ;) in the media and audio press has been on the streaming service, I sorta assumed that was your primary customer set.

All that aside, this should be a non issue. Why not just enhance the display on the UI of the app? Take this example:

Screen Shot 2018-09-17 at 10.50.16 AM.png

Where it says: "Available in Hi-Res Audio," why not add a modifier like this:

  1. for Purchase only
  2. for Streaming and Purchase
  3. for Streaming only - I doubt this is ever true, but included for completeness.

Your thoughts?

Hi,

It is not easy to compare customers on a subscription with customers on a purchase. This varies from one country to another but overall we are not far from a 50/50 ratio. Sometime a country have more streaming customers and another buyers customers.

Regarding your proposal on the display of hi-res information, this is a work in progress. We are updating our API to get this information and display it on our app.

Thanks David. I figured it was something like that. As I was coincidentally installing it on my new OS I was a bit confused. Even a more informative popup message would have been better. Perhaps "Oops. Our server ate some bad hay"?

"Error 500" could have meant anything and even consulting the Universal Source of Truth(Googling) did not help.

BTW. I would be interested in knowing how your business divides between streaming and purchases also. Having dipped my toe into the QB pool I feel very little inclination to buy files now. I hope to combine it with Roon for a One Stop Shop...

That all said I love Qobuz and am looking forward to it's release here in the US.

Best,

Paul

More of a feature request than an issue: How about adding the ability to copy text into the search box by "right clicking". It does work with ctrl + V. Obviously not earth shaking or show stopper. Just a refinement.

While we are at it, how about a QB sponsored forum? Right now this thread has expanded a bit to enfold all things QB...

Hi,

I guess you're talking about a right click on a track. We already have actions on the right click. We can eventually look for one more option such as "search this track".  I will study this.

How does sponsored forum work ?

Thanks for the reply. I was actually talking about the "Search" box in the upper right corner of the application that lets you find new/desired material. I often go the the thread here on CA where members post their musical favorites. It would be nice to be able to copy a composers/performers/conductors name and just right click inside the QB search box, get a context menu, and choose "paste". It does work with "CTRL + V" but the other method is a bit faster. This is a wish, not a need!

You would speak to Chris the CA admin/founder regarding starting a vendor supported forum.

Ok I understand. We will add this.

Hi David - Yes, I think that obviously you want to satisfy people who want to purchase as well as those who want to stream.

My apologies that I didn't make clear what I meant, which is that *if* a particular hi res album is available for purchase but not for streaming, I (and I assume you :) ) would want the Qobuz UI to indicate that.

As I answer before this display of Hi-Res button is in progress to differentiate Streaming with Download.

May not appear in the news release because the modification framework is closed.

Thank you for the information.  It helps get a better understanding.  Is it possible to have the update process run just on startup and shutdown once it has confirmed that the update has completed?

Do you  mean auto-update of the application ?

"News release"? "Modification framework closed"?

Do I sniff an impending US go-live?

I'm not sure about "Modification framework closed", sorry for my english.

For the Desktop & Web player we used agile framework for managing work like "Scrum".

All release are done in a "Sprint". All sprint include issues.  The Sprint is closed to be done in one month. We try to make a new release of the application every month.

So the next release of our application does not mean there will be launch in USA. Moreover, the launch in the USA will not require a new release. of the application
