Qobuz in A+ with the direct mode hack sounds so much better than TIDAL in A+ it's not even close.

CD quality for both, and the Qobuz 16/44 sounds near indistinguishable from my local files.

I am upsampling by power of 2 before sending it to my DAC, also the same between both streaming services. Perhaps it's Audiophile sacrilege, however I do it to help 16/44 files sound a bit better.  Anything above that does not get upsampled.

I have it set right in A+, the Qobuz file is 16/44 and I upsample those to 24/88.  In case anyone doesn't know how to only upsample specific sample rates, here, I will show you.

 

Open Audio Preferences > Audio Filters >  and select Custom > then over to edit settings and a pop up will appear letting you select what you want to happen to each sample rate.

Hell if I know.  It would make more sense if one was an MQA file and one was a straight Hi-Res file. But there is certainly a difference, not a huge one, but a difference none the less.

I believe it, it almost sounds like the Qobuz version has less compression.

David, I have found a small issue related to tagging of Morgan James.  She is listed as James Morgan, who is not female.

I just sent an identical note to Qobuz about a different album.  Yes, I have seen that problem.

When you are able to, even the 16/44 from Qobuz sounds pretty damn good but the Hi-Res, without MQA, is amazing. Last night I was sitting with my SO on the other end of my office, by the fireplace with no fire going, and it sounded like Diana Krall on a smaller scale, yet real, was behind us.

If TIDAL survives I suspect it will be at the $9.99 tier of mp3 streaming.

Why is this album even appearing in the list of available albums if it is 100% unstreamable?

Found an error on one of the new channel classics records.  Ivan Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestras version of Wagner.  Plays at 16/44 identifies itself as 24/192 in both A+ and the Qobuz desktop app for Mac.
