Popular Post esldude
Excellent write up. Excellent description. Good article. Thanks. I would note one reason you can't get real dynamics in your home, is darn near all the recordings are compressed. Not saying realistic dynamics are easy otherwise, but you'll never get the same effect of startle, and quick transients with the compression even most classical recordings suffer from. It never lets the sound relax to allow the quick fast powerful startling outburst to occur. Nor does it allow the outbust to fade away to calmness like a rock dropped into a unrippled lake. crenca and austinpop 2 And always keep in mind: Cognitive biases, like seeing optical illusions are a sign of a normally functioning brain. We all have them, it’s nothing to be ashamed about, but it is something that affects our objective evaluation of reality. Link to comment
Popular Post esldude
I don't think the author of the article is saying this is how to listen to music. It was a one off experiment of sorts the way I read it. This one time, let me see how this compares to my stereo rig listening in stereo rig evaluation mode. He mentions knowing about where to sit for his enjoyment, and I doubt he was listening in analytical mode those times. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me, and he isn't saying this is some kind of how to manifesto on how to listen to live music.
