Unless someone is actually holding a gun to his head and saying; publish ToneAudio or else? No one is holding a gun to the head of ToneAudio and requiring them to push their entire content via RSS. If they do so either through ignorance, stupidity, or capitalist cunning, it makes no difference. It is not CA's responsibility to second-guess the intent. If they don't want it pushed out via RSS, then change the setting. It would take one or two clicks, and the problem is solved. Any six year old with a computer mouse is capable of doing this. It doesn't require any special training, consultation with attorneys or IT professionals. But I guess it is a lot less entertaining than having an internet tantrum and wallowing in self-inflicted ignorance. crenca, Jud, The Computer Audiophile and 3 others 4 2 Link to comment

Popular Post jtwrace
A simple email and phone call can go a long way. Perhaps putting ego aside and letting Chris (who has the knowledge) could've told him exactly how to fix the issue at hand. It's a service to our readers and fills a niche not elsewhere provided for. Most publishers like when we send them traffic. In fact, I have emails going back many years where Jeff talks about "cross pollination" and his desire to share content between our two sites. However, my guess is that CA doesn't want to back down and reward the bullying and gratuitous legal threats. A better question is why doesn't ToneAudio behave in a way designed to maximize the likelihood of obtaining their alleged desired outcome? The Computer Audiophile and AudioDoctor 2 Link to comment

What is this, first grade? I had someone legally threaten me once to take down a copy of a Letter to the Editor of a newspaper (in response to one of her own). I refused to take it down simply because I did not want to allow a bully to get their way. If you reward bad behavior, you get more of it. Anyone who has kids or pets is casually familiar with the concept. But to answer your question, it is not first grade. First graders are smart enough to figure out how to change a Wordpress setting (see above). Jud, The Computer Audiophile, Shadders and 3 others 4 2 Link to comment

Another firm says the same at greater length: "In general, copying material without permission of the copyright owner is copyright infringement. However, there is an interesting legal question raised by RSS. By making your website available by RSS, are you granting permission for others to republish your RSS feed? "In other words, RSS is an abbreviation, which includes the word “Syndication.” Syndication generally means that the owner is making the material available to be accessed in other locations, which is essentially republishing. To my knowledge, the courts have not come up with a clear answer to whether republishing an RSS feed is actually copyright infringement." So the situation is in fact the opposite of how you described it - the answer is unclear. Even more unclear because the acronym itself could be: 1) RDF Site Summary 2) Rich Site Summary 3) Really Simple Syndication but it’s an XML document ? * Extra credit: How do you determine what “RSS” means?
