So there you go, he walked into the door, and the concussion he received accounts for his incorrect setting for his RSS feed.

No one is holding a gun to the head of ToneAudio and requiring them to push their entire content via RSS.  If they do so either through ignorance, stupidity, or capitalist cunning, it makes no difference.  It is not CA's responsibility to second-guess the intent.  If they don't want it pushed out via RSS, then change the setting.  It would take one or two clicks, and the problem is solved.  Any six year old with a computer mouse is capable of doing this.  It doesn't require any special training, consultation with attorneys or IT professionals.  But I guess it is a lot less entertaining than having an internet tantrum and wallowing in self-inflicted ignorance.

A simple email and phone call can go a long way.  Perhaps putting ego aside and letting Chris (who has the knowledge) could've told him exactly how to fix the issue at hand.

I've already told you why we do it. Trust me, we don't want it so badly. It's a service to our readers and fills a niche not elsewhere provided for. Most publishers like when we send them traffic. In fact, I have emails going back many years where Jeff talks about "cross pollination" and his desire to share content between our two sites.

Unlike you, I can't speak for anyone else.  However, my guess is that CA doesn't want to back down and reward the bullying and gratuitous legal threats.

 

A better question is why doesn't ToneAudio behave in a way designed to maximize the likelihood of obtaining their alleged desired outcome?

I had someone legally threaten me once to take down a copy of a Letter to the Editor of a newspaper (in response to one of her own).  I refused to take it down simply because I did not want to allow a bully to get their way.  

 

If you reward bad behavior, you get more of it.  Anyone who has kids or pets is casually familiar with the concept.

 

But to answer your question, it is not first grade.  First graders are smart enough to figure out how to change a Wordpress setting (see above).

* Extra credit: How do you determine what “RSS” means? There’s a proposed but unofficial way ... anyone know?

Did you work for an audio company or was this a hobby type thing? Just trying to put the pieces together, not attack you or your work.

Community theatre and hobbyist for the most part. I have done sound for bands like Starship and The Platters in in a past work life.
