emw
Hello, I have received today a M2Tech USB device from a friend to test and I can not get it to work. I have downloaded the latest driver for SnowLeo and I can see it in the audio MIDI setup. However, when I start iTunes it will play via my internal speakers. I must do something totally wrong,.....but.... what. Is there somewhere a kind of setup manual..... Purite Audio
Have you droped the small 'loudspeaker' icon into the blue highlighted 'Hiface' pane? Keit. Link to comment
emw
no, I had not dropped it. Thanks for this hint. But still no sound through the M2T. Obviously now the internal speakers are muted since the loudspeaker icon is moved from Internal to M2Tech. Anything else you could teach me. Bob Stern
Audio MIDI Setup and System Prefs > Sound are two alternative ways to specify an audio output device. You don't need to use both. The advantage of using Audio MIDI Setup instead of Sound Prefs is that it allows you to select the sample rate, but Sound Prefs does not. Both Audio MIDI Setup and Sound Prefs allow you to specify different devices for "Sound Output" and "Sound Effects". The former is the one that receives output from iTunes. "Sound Effects" refers to alert beeps, etc. Leave that set to internal speakers. These are the names used in OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard). In OS 10.5, the same names are used in Sound Prefs, but Audio MIDI Setup calls them "Default Output" and "System Output", respectively. emw
can you let me know how and,or where to get this SoundSource menue. I only have the MBP for my Audio, so I m not very familiar with the setup and functionallity of the OS and the MAC products. However, I have not managed to get the device working. May try it later again. Its a nice sunny day today, audio has to wait until the sun is gone..... Anyway, thanks to everyone in this forum, all are very help full. I m sure we will get it to work..... Purite Audio
EMW once you have loaded the correct ( for your OSX version ) software from the M2 Tech site, plugged in the device and set it as your default output device in Audio Midi that is it, usually music starts. Have you checked the rest of your system, nothing muted, everything connected correctly ? Keith. Link to comment
Audio_ELF
Can I suggest that the dCS Computer Audio setup guide may be of use to you... Eloise Eloise --- ...in my opinion / experience... While I agree "Everything may matter" working out what actually affects the sound is a trickier thing. And I agree "Trust your ears" but equally don't allow them to fool you - trust them with a bit of skepticism. keep your mind open... But mind your brain doesn't fall out. Link to comment
emw
Eloise, thanks, this is good and useful info. Basically I have everything set up in that way, but....still no sound. Bob Stern
In Snow Leopard, simply hold the Option key while clicking the Volume icon in the menu bar. (This renders Rogue Amoeba SoundSource redundant.) HQPlayer (on 3.8 GHz 8-core i7 iMac 2020) > NAA (on 2012 Mac Mini i7) > RME ADI-2 v2 > Benchmark AHB-2 > Thiel 3.7 Link to comment
