Bigfish
Guys: Would you please recommend a solid state drive for a Mac Mini? Thanks, Ken Link to comment
Vincent Borrelli
Hi Ken, After some research, I went with an Mtron Pro 7500 32GB SATA2 SLC SSD (SLC is far superior to cheaper MLC/multi-level cell memory). The SSDs are made in both 2.5" and 3.5" standard size enclosures (I use the 3.5" for a G5). It's lightning fast and should last forever. Since the OS X and few apps I use for the music sever total about 8GB, the 32GB drive is much bigger than I need and 16GB would be fine (got a good deal on eBay). You should be able to pick one up used for under $200. Since there are no moving parts, if it works, it works (no need to worry as with used or refurb'd hard disk drives). Panelhead
I have a Samsung SSD, they make SSD's for others also. Like other comments, a SLC is better. But you will never know it for music playback. Using a MCCOE64G5, a slower 100 Read, 80 write SLC. It draws almost no power and is rated to last 2,000,000 hours. Search on eBay for a drive. I lucked into a Samsung MCB4E50G5mxp recently. It is extremely fast along with low power and 2 MHr life. I would slip one in the wifes 27" iMac, but she would kill if she saw me taking it apart. George 2012 Mac Mini, i5 - 2.5 GHz, 16 GB RAM. SSD, PM/PV software, Focusrite Clarett 4Pre 4 channel interface. Daysequerra M4.0X Broadcast monitor., My_Ref Evolution rev a , Klipsch La Scala II, Blue Sky Sub 12 Clarett used as ADC for vinyl rips. Corning Optical Thunderbolt cable used to connect computer to 4Pre. Dac fed by iFi iPower and Noise Trapper isolation transformer. Link to comment
