Anyone using TC interfaces on Windows 7?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I was looking for an recording interface which I could also use in my "HiFi-Rig" (without the need for different cabling ...), and opted for a TC Electonics StudioKonnekt 48, because I could use my XLR equipped interconnects (to the monitor speakers) AND it has an (analogue) poti controller for the main outs.

The unit arrived yesterday, and I tried to get it wotking on two PCs (one Laptop with Win7Pro and my older AMD based desktop machine).

But, ---> nothing but trouble.

On the first try (with the Laptop), the unit was first recognized, but after a short time (without any activity), the TC NEAR software freezes, and I had to reboot the system.

Same on my desktop.

So, second try on the laptop, and this time the unit was recocgnized, the software has loaded the mixer, but when I tried to play some tracks (Foobar and Wavelab), ---> crash.

For me, the unit is completely unusable, and I think I will return it asap. I have searched the TC forum, but there seems to be a lot of problems with these interfaces, but no "real" solutions.

The questions is:

Has anyone got this up and running smoothly?

And if yes, how much cpu is it using on playback (stereoffile with 44,1/48/88,2/96khz)?

Enlight me ;) pleeeeeaaaaase

Cheers

Harald

Hi!

Thanks for your replies, guys!

After fiddling around with the unit over the whole weekend (and yesterday), I decided to send it back, because not one of the recommended "Tweaks" did anything good ...

This would be a realy good hardware - for a very reasonable price - but the software seems to be quite buggy and unstable to me.

Laptop used is a Dell Vostro 1720 with O2Micro Firewire chipset and Windows 7 32 bit (fresh install + optimized).

've only got oe time where the TC Near software has finished loading (the mixer), but then it didn't recognize the unit anymore (de-installating and re-installing the driver/software package about 10 times ...)

Desktop used was my old (but trusty) AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (single core, Windows XP, TI firewire chipset(!)).

On that machine, the software never found the hardware, and I gave up after two times ...

So, there might be Laptops / Desktops / Chipsets with which these units might work better, but I don't have the time (and money) to replace my 3 month "old" laptop ... ;)

If someone has one of the Konnekt interfaces running under Windows (XP/Vista/7), please report back how much processor cicles it is using on playing stereo files!

(i.e.: the Dell 1720, when playing 96/24 with foobar + kernelstreaming to the onboard soundchip utilizes about 1 - 4 % processor time ...)

Cheers

Harald

Harald ... your problem may be down to the firewire chipset used by your Dell laptop.

...in my opinion / experience...

While I agree "Everything may matter" working out what actually affects the sound is a trickier thing.

And I agree "Trust your ears" but equally don't allow them to fool you - trust them with a bit of skepticism.

keep your mind open... But mind your brain doesn't fall out.

Hi Eloise!

Yes, maybe. But a MoTu 828 (Mk. I) was running just fine ...

(but doesn't too have good and performant drivers IMO).

The Desktop has (the recommended) TI chipset, and ... (was running the 828 on this machine for quite a long time).

As one can read on the TC - and other - forums, the TC software seems to be quite tricky, not to say picky.
