vignmusic
I want a pair of open back headphones to supplement my ATH-M40x's for mixing electronic music. I wanted a second pair with a really wide soundstage and a different sound from the M40s and, after some research, landed on either the K701s or the HE-400is. Whichever pair I get, I'd also like to buy a cheap headphone amp and landed on the E1, but I'm open for suggestions on a different cheap amp. Which pair do you guys think is better? Link to comment
vignmusic
Add the Audio-Technica AD900x's to the options as well. Link to comment
buonassi
I've only heard the 400i (owned it for a while) so I can't offer comparisons for the three cans you mentioned. Sorry man. Link to comment
PleasantSounds
The K701 has a massive soundstage, but with a bit blurred centre image. The sound is very dynamic and treble may be a bit brittle. Out of the box the bass will not go deep enough for electrinic music, but there's an easy bass port mod that takes care of that. The HE-400 have smaller soundstage and less dynamics, but the way it's voiced probably works better with electronic music. And it's more comfortable to wear. Both like powerful amps. My knowledge of the budget range of amps is a bit dated, so I'll let others share their thoughts. Link to comment
