Best next upgrade up from microRendu? Go for Ultra or SOtM or a Server or something else?

Hey guys what do you think? What is the next best bang for buck upgrade up from the mircoRednu?

 

- Part of  my system I listed in my signature 

 

- To go with my microRendu I use and already own below. Was wondering if you guys knew of the next best thing I should plug in? I have been thinking UltraRendu but thought you guys might have some nice ideas before I pull the trigger on that. Here is the other stuff that makes my rendu sound so nice.

HP PC as server w/Roon 1.4 and JRiver MC22, I find JRiver to sound much better and I find PC sounds better than Sonic Transporter but really because JRiver can only be used on  pc and JRiver flat out sounds better.

 

Would love some feedback and idea;s from you guys.

Yes I heard that but couldn’t remember exactly. The other person said it’s more money but it is better than the ultra. He said big improvement over ultraRendu.

 

Is that legit? If fine with the more money if it is legit better. Is there something else to go with it?

 

Can I use my ISO Regen and Uptone Power Supplies with it.

 

Would love a bit more feedback please id that is cool?

Sell my Bricasti? There is no Streamer/DAC all in combo at any price in the world that is better than the Bricasti?

 

or do you mean sell all the stuff I have and get the best streamer to go with my Bricasti? That makes sense and have considered that if that is what you mean and that is a definite idea but my fear is that it won't be any better.

 

If someone say for sure that Aurender N10 is defiantly better than would consider it.

 

I am in cue to have my Bricasti Ethernet media player hard upgrade installed in a few weeks but honestly my microRendu with all the stuff I have sound absolutely fantastic and I already have all the supporting stuff so wanted to try upgrading this and get my Bricasti upgraded. If the Bricasti streamer/DAC is better then I will sell all of this stuff but I am not so sure it will. My system sounds great but want to squeeze out every last drop.

Here is my chain - yes 2 regen's and both with their own LPS-1 - prob overkill but owned the amber already when upgraded to the iso regen so use them both.

No there is not too much stuff I just list stuff you guys don’t bother with.

 

Router - Pretty common item most have one of those - gig switch pretty common also - premium power supplies for both - just better than the ones that come with them but you need to power them so why not use clean power?

 

I have a microRendu so that means you will have ISO Regen and premium power supplies and premium cables.

 

The only extra thing is Amber Regen but I already owned it before ISO upgrade so thought why not use it. I can’t tell if it helps or not but it doesn’t hurt. It’s not doing any good the draw that’s for sure? What’s is worth - a hundred bucks?! 

 

My system is really the same same as anyone that would use a microRendu but I just use premium power supplies and nice cables which everyone should use if they can.

 

Nothing complicated about it.

 

Also, that’s funny to say you should wait... lol 

 

 

oh yeah like the tech is all of a sudden going to mature and I’m getting in too early... lol 

 

this stuff is always changing - who cares - just want the best I can for the best price I can - what am I going to do sit home and wait for something to be invented - I assume you guys are just joking on that one. Why buy anything when something tomorrow maybe better comes along  / I’ve never done that in my life and never will. That’s like the old lady putting the plastic on her couch or my buddy who has a beautiful Rolex but keeps in his draw so he doesn’t scratch it. Wear proudly and enjoy it. Ware out that couch and get another one in 5 - 10 years. Have some fun...

im already in the cue to have my Bricasti upgraded with the built in M5 server upgrade into my M1SE but already own all this Uptone gear so want to try this route also. 

 

I’ll Sell my clean / perfect / 3 month old Rendu non 1.4 with an iFI 9v Supply and AudioQuest Forest RJ/E for $380 and then buy an ultra for $800 so for $420 was wondering if the ultra is worth it or do I spend a few more bucks on something else.

For what is it’s worth. My digital floors my analogue and my analogue is decent. It sounds VERY good but always looking to push it.

 

Because my digital beats my analogue I was thinking of flipping my table for Aurender N10 but honestly I’m after the sound. The best sound and don’t care about simplifying anything at the expense of sound quality. 

 

My fear is this current set up will better the Aurender $8000 server so just can’t jump live without a net on that one. Unless I knew it was superior then I’d do it but I don’t know that at all. Anyone here on of those?

When you say SOtM Ultra is that the ultra 200? Also should I use that SOtM TXUSB Ultra thing also with it? 

 

also - yes I’m getting the Bricasti Ethernet card and with that all that is needed is just Ethernet which might / probably will end the rest of my search but thought because already have a ton invested in supporting infrastructure for rendu type unit / Ethernet in and USB out thought I should at least try to see if I like this option. If so my DAC with Ethernet Card is good to have and will help with resale (not that I’d ever sell it) but also good to keep it up with most modern upgrades.

 

Never heard of those other things and what is a topaz iso transformer? 

 

I have a PS Audio P10 but not sure if those are similar? 

 

I dont even use the Sonic transporter I5 because my PC using JRiver sounds better IMO.

I had the M1 with the netcard Yes, it is much better than the USB connection. But then you will need a much better switch and router. I use the TCXO router from TLS which make a huge jump in sound quality. (And if you do that you don't need the 200 ultra, but than you need a much better server)

Your P10 is much better than the Furman

It is an improvement from ISORegen

Even better if you can get the OCXO router or switch. it is a step about the TC version.

 

As for the server, you can get one off the shelf, or build your own. However, couple main items is a must.

1. Linear Power Supply (ATX Linear, this is the best if build correctly. which doesn't burn your hand when touching it. around 400w)

2. Clock Mod for the board. which include USB or NetCard and chipset. (This can be done by using JCAT and Sotm exp) If the mod is not available.

3. Software (This which you need to explore and try. Roon, HQ, JRiver etc)

This is the start but there still doesn't have an endgame just yet. the sky is the limit.

yes this is super helpful - so do i need a usb board or clock upgrade if I am using either: UltraRendu, Bricasti M5 Ethernet Card or SOtM 200Ultra? All of these handle the Ethernet to audio function so why would I need a clock or usb board - i am only asking because I don't know - not because I am questioning the idea's - they are great ideas which I love but I am not a build my own kind of guy but wish i was just don't have the time or skills but think its awesome.

He has compared sotm and rendu and has just moved to the INNUOS.  I don't believe anyone here is more respected that would have better insight for you here regarding those 3 products (e.g. rendu, sotm, and innuos).

is the lower end INNUOS any good - this stuff changes so much spending $6 dimes on a product that will be bettered in a few months is sort of a painful idea - how about this one - its expensive but not over to the top like the exclusive only 100 made one.

Yes I’m waiting on the switch - I have a plethora of Super Dads dids, I’m a fan - 2 x LPS-1, 2 x Regens ISO/Amber and a JS-2 and a couple USPCB’s so looking forward to switch options - I’m considering at this point after  all the great feedback here to do:

 

UltraRegan to go with the TXUSB to replace the ISO - has anyone tried a ISO after TXUSB with both powered by LPS-1’s and Ghent Cables. I could care less about simplicity. I want better sound and have no problem running units back to back. 

 

Is TXUSB and ISO basically the same thing basically with TXUSB being x 3 the money for only 10% better improvement. I’ve been chasing that last 10% since day one because layering 10% bumps add up quick so if that is case I want to try one but I love my ISO but can use this on a USB hard drive. 

 

I also need another server option.

 

i want to run JRiver not Roon.

 

i a/b and they are not close. IMO in my system with my set up the way it is I find JRiver to be around 15% better which is not insignificant.

 

The network with EQ shaping options on JRiver just sound more natural to me. 

 

I use a run of the mill decent HP PC with good PC cable plugged into my PS Audio P10 and it was better than Sonic Transrotor I5 -

 

what is a not crazy expensive option that will let me run JRiver. This I need help with?

Is A NUC with Solid State hard drive for OS run by Linear Power Supply a upgrade?

- get a ultraRendu and get TXUSB and run both via LPS-1 although for the record I find my regular rendu sounds better when power by my JS-2 verse a LPS-1. I like it much better. I also use one of Alex bespoke cables here verse the Ghent cable. 

 

With this I need a better server for JRiver, Ultra/JS-2, TXUSB/LPS-1 so now what server.

 

To find a player that offers JRiver and Ethernet is tough? 

 

I wish the sonic transporter I5 could use JRiver.

Guys how about this. I will use with ultrarendu so don't need the spdif out but it looks like it has everything else that might be nice and not crazy expensive. Has the good power supply and jriver and made for audio so would love your thoughts on how this would match with ultraRendu and SOtM TXUSB combo.

i’m Considering a NUC I7 with SSD for OS that runs windows so I can run JRiver. They are 19v do you think my Uptone Audio JS-2 run at 12v would work or do I need to get another power supply?

I was considering one of these two. Is the $550 one worth the extra money? I think they both take the same power. I am thinking if the JS-2 can power these I will use to run rail of the JS-2 to run the NUC and the other to run the UltraRendu.

I love the JS-2 with my microRendu but I want to do some upgrading.

 

I use a garden variety HP PC and mircroRendu 1.3 and ISO Regen because I want to use JRiver so thinking of going with:

 

NUC I7 with SSD HD for W10 OS and JRiver 22 powered by JS-2

UltraRendu Powered by LPS-1

txUSB Ultra Powered by LPS-1

 

I would love to run the ultraRendu with my JS-2 but need that to run the NUC.

 

I guess I could get the HDPLEX $399 linear power supply everyone uses and run the NUC with that and keep the JS-2 running the ultrarendu but would rather trying using the supplies I have.

 

I have a couple Breeze Audio 12v china supplies I use for my router and switch that actually sounds great and were cheap but would be afraid to use those on the NUC?

Thanks - I agree, ultraRendu is first. Another reason for the NUC is my PC is loud when tv is quiet which is annoying but that is kind of rare when no sound from anything so not huge but part of it. Do you think the NUC with JS-2 and SSD for OS and I7 and more ram will help sound vs my A8 processor and spinning drive?

This computer server stuff is stuff that I understand as a layman that has a basic understanding of pc's and how they work and what parts do what but not a build it yourself type due to never doing it so any question i have is just that based on not knowing verse any disagreement.

 

 If I am using Ethernet out to the UltraRendu why would I focus on improving the pc usb out and clock and all that - doesn't the ultra help with all that? Trying to learn is all. Thx

Guys - to use the tx-USB ultra do I need to get the ultra 200 also to take full advantage of the master clock? or can I get the ultraRendu and then choose the tx-USB ultra and not get the master clock or do i get the master clock and still use with ultraRendu. This is the kind of stuff that shows the limit of my understanding of how all these bland together?
