Popular Post nvitorino
Hi everyone, It's been a crazy season with shows a bit around the world and visiting factories to ensure suppliers would keep to their words with delivery (which they didn't...) so time has been shorter than usual. Given a lot of you have provided feedback about the your disillusionment with Innuos regarding the focus of the latest 1.4 update being on library management, I thought I'd just answer to everyone right here. First I'd like to address the feeling the SE users have been "abandoned". Not the case at all. With our software development cycle, we try to balance between "front-end" features (like metadata management) and "back-end" features (like kernel updates). Do note that the updates are for all our servers and not just for the SE (although there are specific settings for each model). Version 1.4 was already being finished by the time we made a quick test with Rajiv with Roon/Squeezelite integration so it could never be part of the update. Furthermore, in order for the Roon/Squeezelite integration to work, we need to disable the LMS music library as this conflicts with Roon. A number of our features depend on that so those will need to be disabled too. Do be aware that is will always be a beta feature as it depends largely on Roon maintaining support for it. It already limits it to 24/192 audio anyway. We plan to bring this option on the 1.4.1 update that we are developing now. The focus for our next updates will be almost exclusively on the OS side as we feel the library management features are now at the level of functionality we wanted, A lot of you are Roon users. There is very limited scope to what we can improve in terms of sound quality with Roon. We can improve things on the OS side of the system that will benefit both Roon and innuOS users. However, I hope you understand that it's likely there will always be differences between the platforms. Software implementation matters and whilst we can do improvements on the Squeezelite player, we cannot to them to the Roon player as we have no access to its code. On a sidenote, the external USB reclocker based on the Statement board will also allow a very audible upgrade to SE users. The electronics are all designed already, it's now a matter of chassis (meaning a fresh round of chasing suppliers...) Nuno baconbrain, yellowblue and rickca 3 Link to comment

Considering everything they are wanting to modify, they could just offer the SE owners a trade-in, and be done with it. Hi, Just returning from Munich and catching up on the world. Just a quick heads up with regards to the Ethernet Reclocker Switch we've spoken about to some at Munich. The Reclocker Switch will take a good deal longer than the USB Reclocker - we are designing the switch from scratch as simply changing the clock on an existing commercial switch leaves too much potential untapped. This is the same approach we have taken with the USB Reclocker to a great effect. As such, we are expecting the USB Reclocker to be ready around end of July. Ethernet we would recon more towards the end of the year. Not everyone needs both a USB Reclocker and the Ethernet Switch. We have SE customers who basically don't do streaming, which will be the main advantage of having the reclocker, as well as customers who use the SE with another streamer and don't connect to a USB DAC. In those cases, they only need one of the boxes. For those who want both, the Statement is indeed a tidier solution but also one that requires a bigger upfront investment whereas the reclocker units can be purchased as you go. Thanks, Alan It's indeed a complete switch implementation but running the same OCXO clock we use on the Statement. We plan do design 1 input port and 2 or 4 output ports. 8 ports as seen on some devices look overkill to us and the empty ports are more antennas for noise to seep in. 2 outputs are probably enough for most audiophile setups - even new active speaker designs would require only 2 connections. 4 ports would provide a bit more flexibility though if someone does have multiple rooms. Your thoughts here would be interesting. 19 hours ago, Nenon said: Nuno - have you considered selling your USB reclocker without power supply for those who already invested in a state of the art LPS (such as a Paul Hynes SR7 let's say)? There will be a number of members on this forum who would jump on it right away. Some of you may suspect insidious reasons (more $$$ to Innuos) but the point is really to have the shortest possible paths to both clean power and signals. You would need two rails anyway and the power to the clock is quite critical. It's less spaghetti and less cost on good cables. Whilst we could offer a version with and without power supplies, the issue here is stock management and the required project to design another different chassis, production line, training etc... In the end, if performance is not the same as the integrated unit, that would quickly become a much less preferred option. I don't think there is any such thing as having too many linear power supplies anyway - there's always a device around that benefits from one 🙂 Nuno Link to comment

When an Innuos ‘switch MKII’ is released next year one would have to buy the PSU again since it’s integrated. Anyway, I understand the rationale and that there’s different types of buyers in the market so nothing wrong with your approach. Hi Dutch, Completely understand your view and it's a good point. Although, taken to the extreme, we would end up with quite a few boxes around. It's indeed the rationale to have everything separate - source, dac, pre-amp, monoblocks (eventually all with separate PSU's). It's just a whole lot of boxes and cables... The other consideration is that power supplies evolve too. There's certainly still room for improvement there... So even it the case of a "Switch MkII", there would be a good chance the PSU itself is upgraded then. Nuno Link to comment

Before I break it is there a trick? Push the side tab in and pull straight out? Not working even with pliers but before I go farther I want to be sure I don't break it Thanks guys Try clicking the drawer back inside until both sides are well inserted, Then press on one of the sides and then the other. If it still sticks, push inside again and try the other side first or both sides at the same time. Nuno Link to comment

They could call it Roon Optimized Mode or Roon Enhanced Mode. Your wish may just come true... We have a new Beta for Experimental Mode on Roon 1.7 and, on our tests, seems to be absolutely stable - hasn't glitched once so far. @kennyb123 If you'd like to try the beta, please PM me. We'll arrange a remote session to install it and you can try it out. Assuming everything works fine, it will be released on version 1.4.4, along with some other goodies 🙂 Nuno baconbrain, yellowblue, soares and 5 others 6 2 Link to comment

DSD128 support is a limitation on the Squeezebox support on Roon, not much we can do there. Support will only be via DoP up to DSD64. DSD128 will be downsampled to DSD64. Link to comment

Music is played directly from internal SSD. Will DoP DSD 256 and PCM 384k be supported? Right now, limited to DSD 128 and PCM 192k. What caused the limitations? CPU processing power? It's not about processing power at all. It requires a kernel upgrade to support native mode on selected DACs. It's planned for version 1.4.4. The CPU processing power isn't really that relevant unless you are converting PCM to DSD or using DSP with several zones. Playing back DSD or PCM directly requires little to no processing power at all. Link to comment

How about NAA support for HqPlayer? That's more unlikely. Not because of technical difficulty but mostly because is makes little sense to use the server just as a NAA. It mean a huge amount of network communication (first getting the file to process on HQPlayer then sending the file back to NAA). It's quite busy at the moment but next year I can easily arrange a remote session with you and install NAA on the server so you can have a play and then decide whether it's worth it or not. soares and baconbrain 1 1 Link to comment
