AudioDoctor
Bob. The other day I was fiddling around with my 2011 Mini and had some RAM come unseated. Until I figured out what was going on the thing was slow as hell. Did you have the thing open recently? If so, make sure it's detecting all your RAM. Heck, do it anyway, it's super simple. Apple Menu on the top left, About This Mac, and then Memory. Make sure it is showing as all there. After that, open ROON and go to Settings and Library, make sure it is actually finished analyzing your library. It will be slow until that finishes. If those two are not the problem, we'll dig deeper. No electron left behind. Link to comment
Popular Post firedog
Okay. After about 2 weeks of trial, I signed up for Sublime+ and cancelled Tidal hifi. It's a big step, as I wasn't dissatisfied with Tidal; plus Tidal hifi was only $11 a month where I live (they lowered the price here to compete with Deezer, who offer a Redbook streaming tier here for that price). So I'm now paying $25 a month. Yes, I get hi-res streaming (which I don't really care that much about). But I'm thinking I should make up the money difference (or at least most of it) with the discounts on buying music. I'm also not sorry to have ceased indirectly supporting MQA. If a lot of audiophiles switch from Tidal to Qobuz, the message will be heard in the industry, I think. I have been enjoying a hires "society" plan based via Great Britain for about 5 months. It should expire at the end of this month, February. I was also recently invited to join the US beta for one month. I have not started that yet as I have no reason to believe that I will have an option to migrate to the Live US release by the end of the beta period. I guess that I could start paying for the regular GB subscription but I am hesitant as it seems likely that the US version is close at hand... One way or the other I plan to start paying for QB but the current situation is a bit awkward... "Don't Believe Everything You Think" System Link to comment

ray-dude
Thankfully nativeDSD will have the 2L catalog in native DXD (stereo and multi channel). I’ll certainly be buying the titles I’m interested in, but I would miss being able to audition the albums via streaming. A good reason for renewing your UK account at the end of this month is this, per a Qobuz rep in another thread: it will take them at least a couple more months to complete agreements with most labels, and meanwhile there are many gaps in the Qobuz US catalog. Also the catalogs and highlighted albums will never be entirely the same. To watch this develop and compare the differences, I currently have separate accounts for my two locations — using different email addresses — but if cost is a factor then as noted above you can also ask Qobuz to move your account to the US when ready... if I haven't scared you off for now. mourip 1 Everyone wants to date my avatar. bobbmd
@spin33 Thanks for the reply I was referring to the incredible slow start/loading of ROON and I meant not recently with Ver 1.6 but ever since they became available( and i am a Life Time subscriber for a long time). First I get that cute little quote(my favorite is Keith Richards) then literally minutes of ROON logo bouncing up and down on a white field-A+3 Qobuz desktop app and TIDAL desktop app load almost instantaneously I have no problem with streaming ‘resolution’ just ROON says one thing sometime and then something else and for that matter so does Qobuz in regard to bit rate but same thing happens on desktop app ie hires one time 16/44 another 24/96 etc— A+3 though is pretty consistent upper left corner says 24/192 from source and DAC plays 24/192 sometimes upper left hand corner says 16/44 and DAC plays 24/88 etc if I use my ME2 DAC I get 2 or 3 white LEDs never blue or green unless iI play TIDAL MAQ and I on my Schiit Gungnir to 192 I basically don’t hear much difference regardless of what bit rate is- i just like to think the sound is better on some songs/albums/playlists if it says 24/96 or 24/192!! Sorry if i confused the issue Link to comment

That landing page opens Valentine's Day to some banger with face tats and a platinum Qobuz chain ... .. Please tell me this didn't go pear shaped. Please tell me I can find French language techno and massed classical recordings trending from niche to obscure along with the packaged stuff. Link to comment

I'm comparing to the UK catalog, and also reading reports by other users of artists on the US service with incomplete catalogs. I think comparisons to Deezer, Spotify, or yes, even Tidal are not useful when the focus is on CD-quality or lower resolution releases. But for Hi-Res listeners although Qobuz is making progress it's just not all there yet. They need more time. What I fear will go pear shaped are online reviews complaining about the catalog, because people will see those articles a year from now and think they're still true. Same for the Windows app; I hope they update that to a faster more reliable performance level before launch. Everyone wants to date my avatar. Link to comment
rando
Glad to hear a great "Americanization" didn't occur. That the Eagle didn't get his beak under the tent and end up roosting in there like he owned the place. Please forgive me this last fanciful illustration. Tidal is quite obviously less gangster's paradise and more flashy web design ticker tape of pop comings and goings. Insofar as timing, mid-February is well timed to open with a few bare shelves and gauge the fickle whims of (potentially large numbers of) customers unaware of nearly everything on offer. The open beta/soft opening must be going well and staff trained enough to do a grand reveal for the small crowd assembled. One nit I'd be hard pressed to pick is their handling of media coverage. This entry certainly appears to have been well discussed with competition and other elements well beyond striking off on a seat of the pants expedition. I have the USB Audio Player Pro demo installed and look forward to using it come Thursday. Exciting stuff for those who waited! Link to comment

rando
Apps only work for static easily repeatable tasks like uploading photos or checking the current weather. There was no real choice between integration with Roon/UAPP or bowing before M$/Mac. The website, which there is no excuse not to use, works very well. I feel safe saying the target demographic here is intelligent enough to see past the clouded actions of what they've just taken in to enjoy fresh air picnicking in a pleasant clime.
