Thunktank
I agree that Mini does appear to have a small HDD, but having browsed the forums it seems most people are using NAS or some other method of external storage. So does the undersized HDD matter? I thought software did exist to use Ipod and ITouch as a remote for the Mini or am I mistaken? The Computer Audiophile
Hey Paul - I agree that internal hard drive size doesn't matter that much. Plus you can always upgrade it yourself for half the price Apple would charge. You are correct about using an iPhone or iPod Touch for a remote. I use one a lot. Tog
One way to control the mini is to use screen sharing from your Macbook Pro or imac...works a treat. Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
Hey Tog - Welcome to Computer Audiophile. Thanks for the post. In fact I switch off between my iPod Touch and my MacBook Air to control my MacBook Pro music server. The screen sharing feature is so nice. I have a shortcut setup that automatically connects to my music server. Plus once you save the password in your keychain you never have to authenticate to your music server again. Very cool. Innertuber
When I use screen share from the iMac to run the Macbook Coverflow does not update correctly on the iMac. It stays with the cover that was the initial one. Do you folks see the same thing or am I doing something wrong? Link to comment
Tog
I usually avoid cover flow - it is still buggy and doesn't always work well using screen share. I find just using normal view in itunes lets me select and hear the music very well. Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
I finally remembered to try out cover flow with screen sharing. When I use adaptive view I have no problems with cover flow. When I use Full Quality then cover flow is a little slow to catch up to my fast scrolling, but that is to be expected. I'm not sure why you guys are experiencing problems. Innertuber
Chris - is screen sharing the same as remote desktop? I seem to recall I was trying some kind of remote thing? Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
It is 99% the same as remote desktop in functionality. Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
poop
I wanted to add that most of what is being discussed here in terms of what the Mini is missing can be modded anyway. Hard drive size and RAM can easily be added, upgrade the CPU, you can change the optical drive, all sorts of mods are out there waiting to be googled and most are very cheap - pretty sure there was 'N' wiresless being developed as a mod or hack too... Other thing is that in terms of a source for music - why not buy an older mini, do it up a little and enjoy it. Hardly demanding to run iTunes after all. I just got a current model 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo second hand for $500 shipped to Sydney (from US). May not sound that cheap to many of you, but considering they cost $850ish new here, I consider it a bargain! Can't wait for my new toy Link to comment
