Allo Sparky USBridge

Recommended Posts

Volpone,

Our cases are almost done!

Last update is that they are being anodized, then packed and shipped.

They spent a little more time on the CNC then expected.

i am sharing some images with you attached.

Thanks for your patience, we are also very eager to get them and offer them to all of you.

Andre

Allo, how is the laser engraving and packing of cases going? Are we close to having them available?

 @suresh3thanks for asking.

the usbridge and sparky+kali+piano 2.1 cases are about to land at our headquarters in India.

only some customs formalities and a short trip to our manufacturing facility away.

we will soon take pictures and add the product pages to our site.

these will ship worldwide with the exception of EU.

EU stock will take a few more days to land

thank you for your patience !

@Skywatcher

congrats on the purchase!

as you may have noticed, the Sparky has 2 heat sinks assembled on the board.

one over the main CPU and another over the PMU chip.

these should be carefully removed by gently prying them upwards, before you can use the new alu case.

We used thermal double sided tape to hold in place, so is pretty easy.

tips:

use a plastic tool (i find that the cap of a ball pen works best) and wedge it under the heat sink in the corner where the small allo.com logo is on the sparky. then using a twisting motion, gently dislodge the heat sink.

use thin nosed pair of pliers to gently twist the smaller heat sink on top of the PMU.

i will soon upload a video showing the above.

any questions, let me know.

@Mike Pinkerton

ok that is very possible...

that means 22$ was the estimate and actual shipping is 24$

again, if you send me you details ( shipping address), i can check the shipping rates and confirm.

as indicated on our site, we ship from India to the world and from EU to EU.

So its hard for me to further discuss unless i know your full shipping address to confirm.

thanks

hi there Lobster and thanks for the feedback.

we have also noticed that the current DC to micro USB adapter cables are a little too big for the case; the plastic head profile is a few mm too big (11mm x 7mm).

the 11mm width is OK, but the 7mm height is 1.5mm too high

we are waiting for new adapter cables and in the meantime, all USBrigdge units and cases will be shipped along with a different cable that fits perfectly.

for those who received their cases already and face this issue, see some simple solutions you can try:

Easy to try:

if you loosen the 4 screws of your case, you will notice that you have about 0.2mm 0.3mm play.

you can align the 3 layers in such way that you get a snug fit.

DIY:

not the best or recommended, but with an X-acto (box cutter) knife, you can shave  1mm to 2mm from the height of the micro USB  plastic head till you get a snug fit. it takes a few seconds.

Final:

We can send you a new cable...

thanks for letting us know if you tried it!

thanks

Andre

@volpone @Lobbster

if you're comfortable with assembling and disassembling the case, dont let the heat seal get in your way.

we recommend to use the eMMC because its much less likely to get corrupted than SD.

for about 10$-15$  you can buy yourself on amazon a sheet of silicone heat sink pad 2mm thick and cut it.

you will have plenty of stock to replace it when needed.
