I would like to keep the lenght short but it looks pretty stout... Well it's not that flexible. But it's not rigid either. With a 24" cable, I am able to connect the Ref-10 to the MC-3+ USB which is sitting right above it. This is very convenient. The look and feel of the cable is more of an industrial/scientific instrumentation than of a fancy HiFi system. But I am not looking at the cable, just listening to the benefits of the Ref-10... What remains a mystery to me is this: I sincerely do not have the perception that the Ref-10 is affecting the transparency in any way. Apart from the smoothness you are referring to, it also brings a lot of additional dynamics, both macro and micro in my systems (I actually have one Ref-10 on my 2 systems, with similar benefits). Have you checked whether your femto clock upgraded Lyngdorf DPA-1 is processing the time signal of the S-P/DIF input or if it applies its own time signal ? Might be the reason why you are not hearing the benefit of the ref-10. But you should not hear the benefit of the MC-3+ USB either... Enjoy your new cables anyway. I can clearly hear that the re-clocking of the MC3+ USB does wonders to my system. When I unplug the REF10, the difference is not subtle. When the MC3+ USB is set for an external clock, unplugging the external clock means that the signal passes through the MC3+ USB without re-clocking (internal blue locking light is blinking). So yes, the DPA-1 picks up the re-clocking very well. I know that the DPA-1 has an asynchronous AES/EBU, but that doesn't make it insensitive to re-clocking. Link to comment

Popular Post afrancois
The unsatisfactory experience I had with the REF10 was due to bad DIY cables. I bought two Oyaide DB-510 (70 cm) and the problem was gone. What I now hear is : - increased bass control (no more sloppy bass even with highly compressed music) and new nuances in the bass - details (micro dynamics) - smoothness - airiness and sound stage I mentioned before that I have an upgraded Ruvox Lyngdorf DPA-1 DAC. One of the upgrades, was an upgrade of the clock to a Crystek CCHD-575 powered by a separate LPS placed in the chassis of the DPA-1. The true potential of the upgraded DPA-1 only became apparent, when I upgraded the internal clock LPS to an Uptone LPS-1. For the first time, I can say that the sound of the piano comes close to the sound of a real piano (Peter Lyngdorf told me during a conversation I had with him, that one of the more difficult instruments to reproduce was the piano). For me, the REF10 is a must have to expose the true potential of my system, however don’t underestimate the importance of the clock in the DAC! My ultimate goal would be to replace the Crystek CCHD-575 with a sCLK-EX board with external master clock connector, but first I will upgrade the LPS-1 that’s used to power the DAC clock, to a LPS-1.2. I’ve already placed an order. auricgoldfinger, mozes, Confused and 1 other 1 2 1 Link to comment

The REF 10 has outputs for 50 and 75 Ohm impedance, because there is not impedance standard for 10 MHz signals. Some devices are 50 Ohm, some are 75 Ohm, so you really need to watch out for that. The MC-3+ and MC-3+USB devices are designed for 75 Ohm impedance to match the 75 Ohm impedance used for Word Clock signals. That way you don't have to use different cables for either application. At the bottom of this page is a pretty comprehensive list of 10 MHz compatible devices and their respective impedances: https://mutec-net.com/product_ref_10.php#description Julian mourip and barrows 2 MUTEC GmbH Marketing Associate Email [email protected] Web www.mutec-net.com Link to comment

Since the MC-3+ accepts both Word Clock and 10 MHz signals as an external reference, we had to go for 75 Ohm. It also makes things a little easier because you don't have to use different cables with the REF 10. I would not say that "most other inputs" are 50 Ohm - it really depends on the manufacturer. Again, the list I posted above should help. Julian MUTEC GmbH Marketing Associate Email [email protected] Web www.mutec-net.com Link to comment

So the L-3.3CUHD will not be enough too. So if you get one, get the L-5.5CUHD. For the moment I'm satisfied with my Oyaide DB-510, but one day I will try the L-5.5CUHD. Link to comment
JohnSwenson
As noted above Pasternack is the place to go for custom RF cables. I recently had some 2 ft 50 ohm cables made using LMR-200-UF (thats the UltraFlex version) I wouldn't call it limp but it is quite a bit more flexible than other cables with similar specs. They cost $50 each for the custom cables. You can get them in any length you want and over 200 different coax types and MANY different connector combinations. I had to call them up to get what I wanted, for some reason the web page wouldn't get me what I wanted. Their people on the phone are very knowledgeable and got me what I wanted right away. If you want good RF cables, just go to Pasternack. John S. d_elm 1 Link to comment
Superdad
And if you want a large variety of coax cables (again, different types and various connectors) at low prices, check out Pimfg.com. UpTone Audio LLC Link to comment
mourip
I purchased a Canare 12G-SDI 4K UHD Single-Channel BNC Cable (3') from BHPhoto and feel it bettered the Pro Co 1.5' Premium Canare Word Clock cable that preceded it that was purchased from Sweetwater. It is STIFF however! "Don't Believe Everything You Think" System Link to comment
