Popular Post octaviars
Quote On other threads there have been reports of folks getting good results using the SOtM clock board to run Ethernet switches, endpoints, USB regen type products. Is there any potential to use the REF 10 in a similar way? For me, I could well imagine a set up with the REF 10 connected to my Ethernet switch, a sMS-200Ultra and the Mutec. Is this sensible from a sound quality / performance perspective, would it even work? @Confused you will need some sort of clock board between the REF 10 (10MHz) and all the equipment you want to run on this clock. The MC3+USB have a 10MHz input and that will the SMS 200 Ultra also have if you get the external clock option (inside the Ultra is a sCLK-EX board that will use the 10MHz for referens to it`s output what that now is? ) https://www.sotm-audio.com/sotmwp/english/portfolio-item/sclk-ex/ If you want to use a external clock for your switch for example you will need to find the clock on the circuitboard and se what MHz that runs and then get a sCLK-EX board with the right output and then connect the REF10 to that. The 10MHz clock is just a referens to the other clocks if I get this right. The manual shows example of how to use the sCLK-EX and how to connect it to a 10MHz master clock. https://www.docs.sotm-audio.com/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=manuals:sclk-ex_operating_instructions_rev1.6_-_en.pdf Confused and julian.david 2 Main system TAD D1000mk2, TAD M2500mk2, TAD CE-1, Ansuz Mainz 8 C2, Ansuz Darkz D-TC, Qobuz Studio -> Roon ROCK on NUC -> Uptone etherREGEN -> dCS Network Bridge -> AES/EBU -> DAC HD Plex 200W PSU (4 rail for ISP fiber, router, etherREGEN and NUC) Second system Qobuz Studio -> Devialet Silver Phantom, Devialet Tree Link to comment

To make sure I understand this correctly, if you had a system with say a REF 10 clock, feeding both an sMS-200Ultra 'end point' as well as a Mutec MC3+USB, to optimise you would need to make sure all cabling and connections are per the 75 Ohm spec, plus it would be important to keep these cables as short as is practically possible, in particular to the Mutec MC3+USB? (which in my case would be the 'last clock before the DAC'). The 10MHz clock input on a SMS 200 Ultra is 50 ohms and the REF10 has both 50 and 75 ohms (dont really know how this works but perhaps @julian.david can explain this). I think SoTM uses a 50 ohm connector on their stuff so you would need a cable with 50 ohm SMB plug at the SMS 200 end and a 50 ohm BNC plug at the REF 10 end and of course a 50 ohm coaxcable something like a RG316 cable with smal diameter to fit the SMB plug. So fun times approaching. What Switch is it that SOtM is modifying for you @Confused I run a SMS ultra with a soon to get Paul Hynes SR4 but have an offer for a used tX-USBultra so thought about building out my system with more stuff and a external masterclock. Thoughts about trying AES over USB on my DAC have also come in mind so Mutec REF10 and MC3+USB is intresting. I think SOtM usually supply a D-Link DGS-105, so that’s what I’m expecting. Yes I think you are right about the D-Link. I use a Netgear GS108 with grounded -0V as that is one of the switches John Swenson recommended. I think SOtM can modify any switch if you ship it to them. Looking forward to hear what you think about the SOtM products togheter with the Mutecs. A question regarding the masterclock are you going to use both 75ohm and 50ohm? Mutec MC3 is 75ohm but are SOtM not only 50ohm? I know Mutec REF10 has both 50 and 75ohm outputs so no problem there I suppose? (50ohm or 75ohm can be selected as an option) A good to know that, I have only seen them with 50ohm. Does the REF10 dont have 6 outputs with 75ohm and 2 with 50ohm?
