Yes, you definitely sound cynical. As a retiree living on a fixed income, I am no longer able to chase the latest new thing without giving it a lot of thought, but that does not stop me from appreciating that technology moves on, with or without me. You are not "being prompted to shell out cash again." You are being offered a (presumably) superior product, if you so choose and have the cash. Basically, what I am hearing sounds like sour grapes. "2 yr product cycles" is an outmoded business model that is irrelevant to small, effective operations such as Uptone or Sonore, that don't have to offload tons of stock in order to recoup heavy marketing investments, before they can offer the fruits of new developments. As the satisfied owner of two Uptone LPS-1 and two microrendu, I will gladly invest in an ultrarendu at around $1,000 simply because music and sound quality are high priorities in my life. If the price is prohibitive, I can live happily with my current gear without begrudging those who can afford it the pleasure of the ultrarendu. MikeyFresh, Tone Deaf, http404 and 4 others 7 Al J. Popular Post Al Jones
My Ultrarendu arrived in Denmark 12 hours ago. I plugged it into my Lyngdorf 2170 via an Uptone USPCB and connected it via LAN to my Etalon Isolator. Power is via Paul Haynes silver DC cable/Uptone LPS-1 charged by Revelation Audio silver DC cable/ Keces 116 LPS. It took some cutting and careful nudging to get three connectors to all fit between amp and Ultra in a space defined by the length of the USPCB, but I'm not giving up my USB un-cable. Havng been advised that using Iso Regen after the Ultra would be a "total waste" by someone who should know, I decided to test that first and, sure enough, the Iso will move to my home office with my microrendu 1.4 as soon as it comes back. As for the Ultra, well, it's quarter to three in the morning and I'm still listening, even though I should have been in bed before midnight. There is a newfound "crispness" to everything, percussive effects explode with a scary realism and bass, which I thought was everything it could be and should be with the micro, now has more firmness, bounce and elasticity. The tonalities of various types of strings on acoustic guitars are more distinctive. Double-tracked voices are more easily distinguishable and room cues define recorded space with immense realism and ease. I'm in a "just one more track" listening mood that will probably keep me up a few more hours and I have already accepted that the weekend will be one non-stop listening session. If you've been on the fence about the Ultra, it's time to climb down and take the plunge. MikeyFresh and austinpop 2 Al J. Popular Post Al Jones
I should have made it clearer that I was specifically comparing the Ultra to MR + IRegen, so yes, it "definitely outperforms" that combo to my ears. Adding IRegen after the Ultra did no harm. It was not a step backward, but it didn't add anything either. This was all with just a few hours on the Ultra, so there is room for change. Since my MR 1.4 is in transit, I will try the UR/IR again during the weekend. canali and BigAlMc 2 Al J. Popular Post Al Jones
I managed to connect my UR to my Lyngdorf amp using USPCB. With the USPCB in place, the problem was adapting the LAN cable and DC cable to fit alongside it. I cut nearly an inch off the clear plastic outer sheath of a Meicord Opal LAN connector. That allowed me to bend the cable almost 90 degrees. Almost all my DC cables have long plugs and/or rigid outer sheaths that make it impossible to insert them in the available space. The only exception was the Paul Haynes silver DC cable in the photo with a short plug and no sheath. It can be done. asdf1000 and bunno77 2 Al J.
