Popular Post bluesman
Although the drone of bagpipes is my absolute least favorite musical sound (and I'm stretching my imagination to consider it that), most music played on banjo or accordion is a close second - and I go nuts when having to listen to endless versions of Lady of Spain on the latter. My wife and I were on a cruise many years ago and were "assigned" to a table in the main restaurant with two other couples (very nice people with whom we got along very well). The first night we were all together, we finished dinner and decided to check out the various entertainment venues on the ship. One of the others asked us what kind of music we like. My wife ran through a few of her favorites, and I replied that I love all music except bagpipes, banjos, and accordions. I went on to describe my intense dislike of Lady of Spain, we all laughed, and we chose a variety show in one of the night club settings. It started off great! The house band was really good, and they had a few very fine singers in the Peggy Lee / Frank Sinatra style. The next to last performer walked out with a banjo and launched into his rendition of Foghorn Leghorn swallowing a banjo. I tolerated it without comment. The last performer was a woman with an accordion, who reminded me of Lawrence Welk in many ways (not all of them musical). I remained silent, although chuckles could be head form my wife and our companions. The audience, all of whom had clearly consumed far too much alcohol, called for an encore. And - joy of joys - the banjoist (who turned out to be the accordionist's husband) came out to join her in a rousing version of Lady of Spain. Sadly, I had not consumed enough alcohol. As for the bagpipe version - please don't feel obliged to go to a great length with attempts to find it (saying it also taking into account @bluesman's participation in this thread) One more thing - this is definitely a photomontage! It's not exactly music to my ears. But if it's in the interest of science and education, I'm all for it. Link to comment

That was truly awful!! Easily the worst thing I have heard all year. But that antique shop is kind of cool. Have not been in one that had a collection of vintage microphones (though none looked to be particularly collectable). sphinxsix 1 UpTone Audio LLC Link to comment
Popular Post bluesman
On the other hand, after an exhaustive search, I stumbled across a bagpiper with a healthy dose of redeeming social value despite being accompanied by an accordion. It's probably a pretty good test of system fidelity - but after a few minutes of tweaking, I've concluded that the best way to enjoy this is with the volume set to 0: sphinxsix, AudioDoctor and christopher3393 1 2 Link to comment

Popular Post Confused
What's the difference between a bagpipe and an onion? No one cries when you chop up a bagpipe. What's the difference between a bagpipe and a trampoline? You take off your shoes when you jump on a trampoline. How can you tell a bagpiper with perfect pitch? He can throw a set into the middle of a pond and not hit any of the ducks. What's the difference between a lawn mower and a bagpipe? You can tune a lawn mower. How do you make a chain saw sound like a bagpipe? Add vibrato. What's the difference between a dead snake in the road and a dead bagpiper in the road? Skid marks in front of the snake. What's the difference between a dead bagpiper in the road and a dead country singer in the road? The country singer may have been on the way to a recording session. sphinxsix, lucretius and kumakuma 3 Windows 11 PC, Roon, HQPlayer, Focus Fidelity convolutions, iFi Zen Stream, Paul Hynes SR4, Mutec REF10, Mutec MC3+USB, Devialet 1000Pro, KEF Blade. astrotoy
We were visiting the Cologne Cathedral in 2005 and when we finished the tour, there was an accordian player, playing the Bach Toccata and Fugue in d minor. We stood there and listened. He then went on to play part of the Vivaldi Four Seasons. We didn't have any way of capturing his playing, but I think this is the same. Unfortunately it doesn't show him playing, just the Cathedral. Confused
This made me smile yesterday. The UK commentator for the 2021 Eurovision song contest made a comment asking if anyone had wondered what happened to Orville the Duck, then said "unfortunately it did not work out well for Orville, Kateryna Pavlenko (singer for the Ukraine entry) is wearing him tonight". For those not from the UK, this is Orville the duck, he was very famous back in the day: This is Kateryna Pavlenko doing her thing: sphinxsix 1 Windows 11 PC, Roon, HQPlayer, Focus Fidelity convolutions, iFi Zen Stream, Paul Hynes SR4, Mutec REF10, Mutec MC3+USB, Devialet 1000Pro, KEF Blade.
