Hi again AD,

Of course logically the earliest deliverable generation of any serial process seems preferable.  But in the case of the very few recordings processed in DXD, the DXD version if available may not be in one's best interest. It's dependent on the listener's system and hardware. There are very few DAC's capable of playing 352.8KHz 24 bit files. The vast majority of those are, like most DAC's, rear ended with Sigma-Delta modulators producing audio from DSD like bit streams ((PDM) Pulse Density Modulated bit streams). If they are fed a/any PCM word stream, that stream must first be converted to PDM bit streams in real time to be integrated (converted) into audio. The key is how that PCM > PDM conversion occurs.

If it occurs on the DAC chip itself, the conversion algorithm employed is constrained by the processing power available. If  the PCM stream(s) are processed to PDM (DSD) bitstreams offline (even in realtime) by a CPU, there's vastly more processing resources available to support more thorough and robust conversion algorithms. This can be accomplished by the listener using players such as HQ Player, or purchasing the recording's DSD version of bit rate of your choice, that was converted to DSD by the algorithms in Pyramix (the DAW that created and used the DXD PCM conversion in the first place).

Best,

Tom

That is where the test files comes in handy:

How is this slow music? And it sounds incredible.

Feenbrothers one mic;

The Witmer Trio is recorded with more mic's and is more laid back than the Feenbrothers. But OK it is a different type of music.

and btw this is the last days of the Witmer trio $10 offer a superior sounding and played laidback😁 album.;

First of all, like Thelonious Monk: said, "talking about music is like dancing about architecture",

but that being said,  still to call the incredible Feen Brothers live recording "laid back"!?, OK compared to Nirvana or something not jazz maybe. But if Feen Brothers is laid back what does that make the Witmer album or to take it even further, Miles Davis; "Kind of Blue"?

At least Carmen Gomes on her  BandCamp site plays it completely straight, she does not even mention that the albums are actually audiophile must haves, just in small letters that;

. A complete steal these at $7.

+3

It's wonderful music and a great recording.

 2 of Sound Liaison's  earlier One Microphone Recordings have won the album of the year award at DSD Native.

Carmen Gomes for best vocal recording with ''Don't you Cry'' https://www.soundliaison.com/index.php/408-carmen-gomes-inc-dont-you-cry

and

Rainier Voet & Pigalle44 (Joe's favorite) for best world music recording.https://www.soundliaison.com/index.php/515-reinier-voet-ballade-pour-la-nuit

The jury consisted of 2 music reviewers but listeners can vote as well

And that’s not all. You, the DSD music listeners, will decide which of these 9 winners will win the prestigious “Audience Award” DSD Album of the Year 2019.

Reading Joe's excellent article about the recording procedure,how the 1st recording (the Carmen Gomes album) was more a less an experiment, it is quiet a feat that they have managed to gain two awards already. It proves they are on the right track.

They have 20% off on both albums in order to celebrate the award.

I have bought the CD from Carmen at her;

                                 BandCamp site

and can report that it is amazing. It is a kind of a  Blues Suite in the sense that every piece of music is connected and the SQ is S.L quality. A very fine album.

Got the CD it last night.

We listened to it from start to finish only getting up to get a refill.

Fantastic way to spend the evening. I advise new listeners to dim the lights and if possible listen to the whole album as if it was one long song or as if watching a movie with your ears as she suggest on her BandCamp Site  .

The small instrumentals combining the songs works like magic or is it voodoo?  That low bowed bass is almost scary!

Personally I love her way of singing and how she gives meaning to the lyrics and she and her band has given new life to these timeless Robert Johnson songs.

Best album of the year for me so far.

Looking forward to experiencing it again if it will be available from Native DSD or Sound Liaison in DXD.

Carmen calls the album a SOUND LIAISON audiophile recording so I guess it'll be there soon enough.

Another beautiful one mic recording dropped today at Sound Liaison, Amulet, with Michael Moore on clarinet and Paul Berner on bass. Superb sound.

Great review in hifi critic:

This is about as simple a recording as you’re ever going to hear: two musicians, one microphone and each track performed live, straight to DXD recording – and it’s totally enchanting…all that spontaneity comes over in spades in this set, which has the usual Sound Liaison recording quality, plus that unmistakable sense of two musicians just bouncing off each other, improvising and making the shape of the songs up as they went along. This is as live as it gets, with a real "in the room with the musicians" impression.' Andrew Everard, Hifi Critic
