Reading on a tablet for a bit. Text is far too large. It was good before the changes.

And it's totally ridiculous on a phone.

We clearly disagree about that. On my phone, the text is so large that it only fits a few words per line. It's insane.

Why can't users who want larger text use the browser feature to do this? Most browsers have an option to increase size but not one to reduce it, or I'd be using it on many sites.

I really find it disappointing when things change for the worse like this.

Firefox for Android here.

Didn't they abandon that?

I am usually quite partial to san-serif fonts (I use them for all our printed documents), yet I do not find myself excited one way or the other about the one you chosen.  However, I will say that I think the bold version--as used for topic/thread titles--looks really funky (and not funky in the good sense).

Just IMHO. 9_9

@The Computer Audiophile doubt you will be surprised I'm capable of being critical of design choices on your site(s).   x-D

It's fine.  Adjust as needed to assuage those with inability to change magnification level.

Just tried it on my iPhone6.  Yeah, it's a bit large, but what I find more disturbing is the way the new font kerns on the phone.  The letter spacing seems practically mono-spaced--though I know it is not.

Seriously, you guys think this is too large?

Yes, I find that unreadably large. The "13 minutes ago" text is a reasonable size.

Here are a couple more well known sites that are text heavy and very readable. Do you guys think these are too big as well?

Yes, I do. I detest Medium for this reason (and others).

Chris, I am severely myopic, so I usually welcome large text.

In general, when it comes to summary views, like topics in a forum, or in an activity stream, I like the size. It's only in individual posts that it seems a bit large. Maybe dial it down by 10%...

I see 7-8 words per line, not "only a few." Is your phone quite different from mine?

I have a Pixel 3a. The text is about the same size as in your screenshots.

I could get used to the size.  What would be really nice--and I silently wished for this even before this week's changes--is for the spacing between paragraphs to be lessened.

I like it when folks start a new paragraph in a long post (those people who write endless blocks of text without starting a new paragraph drive me nuts!), but I think the massive space we now see will be discouraging of that.

So much wasted white space. You would think it was free.

I see the mono-spacing look on my iPhone XS as well.

OK, here is some objective data :~)

13px, 14px, 15px, and 16px.

Going from left - too small; acceptable; nice; perhaps a bit large.

Vivaldi has a convenient page zoom that dials in or out, and more detailed settings specifically for font size. It's quite respectful of user privacy. Built on Chromium, in case that's a no-go for you.

Edit: As boomers age, the Web is going to go to bigger fonts as a commercial accommodation, so I think it's something we're going to start seeing a lot of. This site specifically I'm sure skews toward an older demographic than the Web-at-large.

Viewing those images on my phone scaled to match the width, 13 or 14 would be preferable, 15 tolerable. 16 is too large.
