Chris, The scaling of the avatars is poor up to devistating. Not talking about my own (also not the best what happened to it) but i.e. Jud has grown a lot over the weekend.

It is also not obvious at all what to click to create a response. That is, the mouse pointer does not change when hovering over the thing to click (this is Chrome).

It seems that we lost all the "go to last read" data for the old posts (not the new ones). No big deal ? ... I wonder. In a 1K+ posts topic I am now never going to go into it and continue where I suspended last time. So or I'd skip all after where I left off last time or I must find myself where I was. Neither I am going to do.

Not that anyone would care.

About the white space in between the lines : it now acts like Word (Windows). I mean, if I use Enter I want to go to the next line and nothing more. If I need an additional empty line, I'll use enter again.

Additionally, the Preview does not show the real outcome, as it seems (font is smaller).

Lastly, the X to go back (from Preview) to Edit mode is even less intuitive than my software. LOL.

Finally, I now see that tablet mode is less than twice the width of Phone mode. So true, this doesn't meake sense really (Phone looks to be about right).

Right, after pressing Enter one time to much for 10 times in this post ... maybe we should notice that no forum works so intelligently.

And oh, what about my sig. All the same empty lines just because I use new lines which are quite mandatory in such a situation.

And hey, I surely won't tell about how I personally hate the upside-down dropping down header of the page when scrolling down. I now this is hot, but ...

OK, I said finally halfway, but all looks way crowded from all angles possible.

  <-- Good !

Anyway, all meant well and just telling what springs to me.

Peter

And Chris, outside of anything else ... I like the width. Let me be the only one, but I certainly agree with all the experts. Newspaper columns are small for the same reason (avoid moving head and find back the next line unconditionally instead of skip one or read the same).

And the scrolling complainers ? let them be. But remove the white vertical space. Now 50% is gained. Haha.

What an endeavor ...

There's a notification of topic replies that pops up at the bottom of my screen with a link saying "Show Reply" or "Show Replies."  Clicking it doesn't scroll me to the reply/ies.  Just my browser, or the same for everyone else?

I just clicked one and it brought me in add a topic mode. But to which one ? But this one was at the right hand bottom side. I also just saw one in the bottom middle and that went to eh ... "that" post. A bit difficult to understand sofar. And when one appears while typing (which just happens) you "type it away".

We'll find out I suppose.

Chrome here.

Reload the page...?

Jud, you are correct. But it must be a bit of a "hard" reload. Thus, for Chrome (and most probably IE the same) Ctrl-F5 and not only F5.

And again, what a relief, the way to attach files. Btw, in-line I am not sure yet.

WTF ... there's a real cool "quote this" feature ! hard to explain. But I just copied and a balloon was thrown at me and now there's the "Jud said".

Anyway, Jud, you look as much forward as you sound, so there's still a zoom at work which we don't like. For your avatar I mean. Others are fine.

That's something I still have to look into. When I imported all the users the site assigned reputation points to them based on something.

Chris, this is about the thumbs up (and down) thing.

My reputation is obviously low because I hardly have posted since the "like" feature was introduced in the old forum.

A not so nice feature that I just ran into :

I clicked edit on my previous post, which was after 4 minutes. Then used maybe one minute to find my ways (like the Save button) and next *after* my changes, I received the message that Edit was not allowed any more because the post was made too long ago.  My edit was minor (changed a "is" into "seems to be") but of course it can be a much longer waste of time. So in my view once into Edit one should be allowed to continue and not be rejected in aftermath. Especially with such a short grace time.

I now notice something which is dangerous when not known ...

Yesterday, during daylight, I had no real problems with the contrast. Early this morning, however, only a small light on next to the PC and still dark outside, I seriously thought that the light gray was too much light and was really tiring to read. This now combined with the pure black buttons and stuff (much of those can be on-screen, depending on where you are and which surely is not only the forum posts itself) and the contrast was kind of painful. I just had to quit reading.

Surprisingly enough, right now - daylight again - I can't see what my problem has been tonight while I am sure that nothing has changed.

So Chris, when you're tuning for this contrast, maybe do that in the vastly darker room as just then the problems emerge (for someone like me o.O).

Here is another example of something which is quite in the same realm. Look below (my attachment) and concentrate on the "Report post" part. This is very dim when not hovered (could be problematic on mobiles ?). Now look at this from different angles and like in my situation from a tad too much from above (say that text is near the bottom and you are a bit too close to the monitor). What you see will will depend on the monitor ..

Can you see it ? it completely (!) disappears, while the normal text gets more black. So the contrast between the two increases depending on the angle you look at it.

Yeah, great my feedback, don't you think ?

Anyway, it is known that you don't like SMF(orums) and there's not much more "design" to it than a lousy color scheme which *is* readable. But I see you don't like MQA much and blur the lot. I have mine of course deblurred (click on them to compare). Haha.

Chris,

I think someone else tried to point out the same as I am going to show you now. Look :

First shot is from a certain width of my Chrome browser; Second shot is from the same browser but the right hand border was dragged a few mm to THE RIGHT. Thus, the internal browser's width scaling messes up.

Hope this is helpful.CAPreview07a.thumb.png.91cd95d6ae452b33dbbc30c5c436b858.pngCAPreview07b.png.a31310b3744fbc6e03714f4e20ea7605.png

Maybe you need to close your browser or something. My view is much larger than yours. I said my "view" Peter.

I am sorry, but what do you mean with "my view" (in bold) ? (English again :$).

Anyway, I stopped and restarted the browser and see no difference. Here's the maximum width I can drag regarding monitor (width of 1650). After some threshold only white adds.

It's like your browser isn't seeing the 20% width adjustment I made last night.

It sure is !

But yesterday at first it was even smaller of width. So sure I noticed and thought you did not listen to me as the only one who liked the smaller width (compared to the old software).

Btw, I have all at 100%. Thus browser and also DPI Windows settings.

Hey, I now know where I saw this kind of scaling - maybe it helps :

Tidal.

Thus, the scaling (of mainly images) shrink and shrink when the windows is drawn smaller, until unacceptably small, then one column (of images) is cut and the images grow grow again. And so forth. Try it. A similar thing I see happening here, but executed halfly or so.

OK, Now I am going to act smarter than I am :

What I see happening is not any dedicated Phone or Tablet or Desktop CSS etc. What I do see though is that all is just related to the width of the "monitor". Here's the phone view, but just from the desktop's screen :CAPreview09.png.a208d70336cc2d8cfc139c23d8bb1a19.png

What if this is about thresholds and when a certain width (for upper boundaries) is not supported in the CSS etc. it falls back to the smaller (default witdh). Think Case - Else.
