Audirvana Plus 3 (official thread)

Recommended Posts

HI, I am running the latest version of Audirvana+ v3 for Mac (v3.2.15) on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro with macOS High Sierra v10.13.6, a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and a Samsung 1TB SSD. I am using Audirvana to stream TIDAL HiFi "Masters" MQA files to my Melco N1Z (Mk. 1) via WiFi. At the beginning of virtually every MQA track, there is a massive CPU spike of 100% to 200%+ that causes the music to stop for several seconds. After the CPU spike dies down, the music returns to normal. I am guessing these CPU spikes are caused by the 'unfolding' of the MQA tracks from, say, 24/44.1 to 24/88.2 or from 24/48 to 24/96. I get that the MQA unfolding process will cause a CPU hit, and I know I am not running a cutting edge processor, but these CPU spikes seem grossly excessive. Is there anything I can do to minimize this issue short of getting a new computer? Thanks.

I experienced dropout glitches using Audirvana on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro with a Core i5 processor, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB Samsung SSD.  I posted about it here and did not receive any responses.  Other audio programs run fine on this MBP.  It was disappointing, as Audirvana sounds great when it isn't glitching out.

The worst glitches I experienced with Audirvana Plus v3 occurred when playing MQA tracks on TIDAL.  As best as I could tell, the CPU spikes each time the track changed were what caused the glitches/dropouts.

Just installed A+ v.3.5.1 for Mac and the glitches on TIDAL MQA track transitions seem to be way down from v3.2.15.  I need to do more streaming to be certain, but preliminary results are encouraging.

You might want to update to the latest Mac version, which at last check is 3.5.9.  I have no idea if doing so would fix your Qobuz streaming issue, but it seems like it might be worth a try.
