pvanosta Posted February 12, 2017 Share Posted February 12, 2017 The history is complicated. Something happened between Auralic and MQA a year ago, which ended up in a cessation of the relationship. Something about MQA changing the rules at the last minute and only allowing full MQA support in dedicated dacs (which only output analog signal) or something along those lines (the exact details are not clear to me). But boxes like the Aurender A10 do the same thing as the Auralic Altair and they get full MQA decoding capabilities, so perhaps something else happened between the two companies (Auralic and MQA)... Now Auralic says it's working on some sort of home-grown MQA support which does not infringe upon MQA proprietary IP. We'll see what they come up with but I am as disappointed as you. I bought the Altair because it had the hardware horsepower to play full-rez MQA files and now that will not happen... Link to comment

Found their Facebook statement about the homegrown MQA decoder. Confusing how they can write a decoder that does not infringe on the IP but okay, I am anxious and hopeful!
