MQA is Vaporware

Start contacting the manufacturers and ask for them to stop supporting it as there is no need for it and it is doing nothing but costing them and us consumers more money neither of us need nor want to spend especially to MQA!

You're right – I will quit complaining and start campaigning.

It has been done.  It did not get the desired result though:

Interesting but I doubt that the ASA is the best forum for challenging MQA. MQA's response on that link was plain ridiculous:

Quote

MQA said the claim that their technology "reveals every detail of the original recording" was a statement of how listeners would perceive listening to a file created using their system, it was not a technical description of the file itself. They said their technology did not change the essential nature of any sound and that no part of the established human audio range was omitted or concealed. Being a new technology, they included lots of information on their website about how it worked.

That could just as easily describe MP3. What a joke. And no, they provided no useful information on their website about how it worked.

Did you read the papers? I selected this one copied above for a closer look. It doesn't test for audibility at all – it was testing for physiological symptoms such as nausea, pain or tinnitus.

Furthermore, the test tones started at 12kHz. Hardly ultrasonic and not relevant to the discussion here.

It really pays to read studies before citing them ;)

The annual report is quick to blame difficulties on COVID yet somehow the rest of the music streaming industry boomed over the same period. Hmm, it's almost as if there is another reason. I like to think that this thread played a small part 😂

Would Tidal themselves consider purchasing it? They have sunk significant effort into making MQA a point of difference!

Tidal keeps losing money too and has less than 1% of the streaming market. They will probably be next to go.

evidence in the huge disparity* between recent post 2019-2021 recordings and old recordings made up to MQA level 1-2 would support that.
