A novel way to massively improve the SQ of computer audio streaming

idea/question is it possible to replace a crystek 575 clock with one of the sclk-ex's tabs? Then you could add the iso regen into ultra clock tab mix. Just between ground and the clk padd of the 575.

I have been mailing with May from Sotm. She said that it is possible to replace a crystek 575 clock with one of the sCLK-ex tabs given the correct voltage and frequency. 

Thats all the info they need for all xo's you want to replace, frequency and voltage.

Hi all, i am in doubt what to do with the clocking of my audio computer built.

I liked the sotm clk-ex  idea of synced clock outputs and that it is probably better then a crystek 575. 

But what about the pulsar clock , that clock is much much better. 

If i buy the sotm clock with 2 outputs active it will cost me 750 dolllar. Sending it to Europa plus tax it will cost me 850 euro.

Two pulsar clocks will cost me 863 euro.

Well i need 3 clocks for my built so the sotm will cost me 900euro.

The alternative is a crystek 575 for the first clock and than the mobo and usb hub with pulsar clocks. mmmmm what to do???

Which one would have the better SQ? Sync, no sync?

The Meitner MA1 has a smps. Sound  very good anyway.

i am also interested in replaceing the clock on my mobo but how can i measure the necessary voltage? Do i need a oscilloscope for that or can i do it with a multimeter?

Yah well, we believe you can let the switch act as regenerator for the network data. Like the ISO regen and the TXUSBultra for usb signals.

But what about the noise after isolation transformer and choke? My guess is there is not much noise left after isolation. 

But i think it is good thing to have a switch near your audio system that regenerats the signal. Allso better phase noise and amplitude noise.

isolation is allso good if you have a tv mediaplayer on the same network.

I think your engineer friend will laugh. The data that is sent from a to b gets there with no loss. So what is wrong he will say. My guess.

But it is probably a very difficult question. If the clock is super duper will there be less phase noise, less jitter, better signal integrity or much less error correction?

That is probably the improvement with motherboards super duper xo’s, less error correction. But nobody knows, audiophiles are crazy, right. But we love experimenting with audio. . 

If designers/ r&d engineers aren’t curious do not experiment, or dismiss things upfront, you do not get anywere!!!!

It is indeed difficult to find/ buy one crystek 575-25  25 MHz (fs105 clock).

The one on eBay is 56 dollar! That is a bit expensive, i thought thay were 8 dollar or so.

You also need a good regulator module too. Darn it is getting expensive again.

That is not the correct oscillator. This is the one.

25Mhz is not the optimal choise frequency for network. It is the necessay frequency the realtek rtl8305nb chip needs. It is not a choice. So Stop pulling your hear.

It has also something to do multipels of 25Mhz until you get a particular frequentie and bits/sec.

First things first getting the power supply clean with a lps and bypass the dc to dc converter. See picture

I do not understand if you have the AQvox switch 8 there is probably nothing to be gained. It already has all Bells and whistles. My God it costs 400 euro’s or is it 800.

This effort has been tedious at times, but has yielded a spectacular improvement in what was already great SQ.  Across the spectrum there is greater density, improved tonality, with bucket loads of depth and presence.

 

Reducing RFI/EMI with John Swenson's so called JSSG tweak has been profound. However when doing these tweaks, I look for what appears to be secondary reasons for the quality improvement, but that in reality could be the primary contributor.

 

The Netgear fs105 switch is one example.  Not only does it isolate the high impedance leakage, for most of us it also drops the network speed to 100mbs from 1 gb. Is it the isolation or speed drop that matters most?  I don't know.

 

Likewise the external clocking solutions may have a (secondary) impact on ground planes.  It occurred to me that they add a lower impedance star grounding system between components by connecting to the central clock distribution board. From there, another path to ground is possible.

 

Like the Netgear switch, it would be hard to say what delivers the largest benefit, common grounding or clocking, as it is difficult to separate the impact of one vs. the other. I don't have any clocking gear here and so can't take even the simplest measurement and have to make tons of assumptions about the circuits at play.

 

Nevertheless, hopefully more food for thought.

This weekend i have succesfully modifed  my netgear fs105 v3. Inside the switch is another switching mode regulator, red square. I have disabled the DC to DC converter by removeing pcb connection, yellow Arrow and coil L1. You can use a knife to cut/ scratch the pcb connection. Solder a wire from +++ to input of LT3045 and the output to 3.3V lane. all around the 3.3V lane is mass. That is it.

Now feed the switch 5 Volt instead of the 12V. Now you have full benefit of your linear power supply feeding the switch.

Another SQ jump.

 

Next mod will be the XO if i can find 575, 25Mhz oscillator. Or maybe a newclassd neutrino (135 euro), is it worth that????

What maybe possible too is, leave L1 in pleace and solder a thin wire on the bottem side to the L1/ 3.3v pin (output) ( make sure it does not short with housing). Lead the wire topside. Use pcb mounting screw for - connection. But you need to cut pcb connection disableing input of dc to dc converter. And solder a wire to the rear of connector housing.

Cutting the pcb trace is easy an easy to correct, on both side of the cutting point is a solder pad. Removing L1 may not be that easy.

I think if you do not cut the trace you still have the switching noise.
