Hexagonalbolts
Hi, I have a Harmon Kardon 3490 Receiver (Stereo receiver, 120 W x 2, able to drive 4-Ohm loads at 150 Watts). There seems to be an issue with the current speakers - one of them is operating at a much lower sound than the other and is crackling, I suppose a part is blown. There's a small chance I could be leaving the country in 8 months so I don't want to buy something expensive. Ideally something around the £80-100 mark maximum. Can anyone recommend some bookshelf speakers that will work with it? Would a pair of Wharfedale 9.0 fit the rating? I get a bit nervous about choosing speakers suited to the wattage/ohm rating. I'm not very knowledgeable about audio. Thanks! Link to comment
Ralf11
almost anything but did you try swapping them from one channel to the other? Link to comment
Hexagonalbolts
almost anything but did you try swapping them from one channel to the other? Thanks, I'll give that a go. My understanding was that there had to be at least some sort of similarity in the wattage of the speakers and the amp, will the 9.0s be ok? Or perhaps the 10.1? Link to comment
Ralf11
unless a speaker presents an unusual load (very low impedance) the main issue is to keep the amp from clipping so if SPL is not real high, you should be fine some amps have special circuits to do soft clipping to try and avoid the nastiness of 'hard' clipping - e.g. nad Link to comment
