Speakers with a broad sweet spot

Recommended Posts

i guess the aerials would best be suited for a tube amp since they are most sensitive?

I've driven my Aerials with a Pathos Logos (110watt) and they sounded great. A Pathos Inpol 2 (60watt all Class A) very sweet but lacking the bass slam I like, and currently a Musical Fidelity KW500 (500watt !!). Both the Pathos were smoother on the top end that the MF, but I just love the MF boogie factor and the subterranean bass. The Pathos Logo however was probably the most balanced however.

Ergo, I am probably not the one to ask about low powered tube amps! The Aerial were designed with McIntosh amps I have heard, so I hope to move that way in the future.

Neil.

Audiogon has some salon2 revels for sale. How reliable is audiogon or is there a risk of getting damaged goods? Never used the place.

Like with most sites where the seller remains practically invisible to you, you buy the seller first. Check feedback and ask for references if you are concerned.

I had a room kinda like that. I ended up placing my speakers along the long wall (your 45 feet wall).

Also you can broaden your sweet spot by placing your speakers further apart.

Just try to place them further apart until the image starts to diffuse (and then a little bit back ;-)).

Worked perfect for me. I did need some absorption right behind the listening position though.

I only use half the room for listening. And there is a sound absorbing partition about 25 feet away from the short wall - about 15 feet behind the listening position. There are some revels on audiogon but I need to listen to them first. Also considering the maggies. Apparently the dispersion of those is different depending on whether the tweeter panel is located onboard or outboard
