Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) AS A CABLE/PORT?

I often hear people say FireWire was the best cable setup

 

...and that with work USB now sounds better (or can be made to sound better) than optical

 

What do people think about Thunderbolt 3 -- and why?

 

it seems that is poised to take over the computer industry, and maybe mess with HDMI in home theatre too
