Popular Post sphinxsix
"Growing up in Sarajevo, I had the good fortune to discover the wonderful music of the singer and musician Jagoda Flory. This Sephardic music first took root in my heart back then and it has remained dear to me ever since. Whatever my current musical project may be, I still return again and again to this special world of lyrical music. To immerse myself in it is to enter into a fairytale world with a wealth of stories from all corners of the globe. En El Amor is my personal collection of these magical stories with songs from Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina. It takes you away on a voyage of love, marriage, longing, desire, betrayal and war; inviting you to enjoy tales which I have gathered and treasured over the years until they inspired me to record this CD." christopher3393, Superdad and semente 1 2 Link to comment

sphinxsix
"Jack Wyllie (Portico Quartet/Szun Waves) presents his new project Paradise Cinema. It was recorded in Dakar, Senegal in collaboration with mbalax percussionists Khadim Mbaye (saba drums) and Tons Sambe (tama drums). The impressionistic and dream-like quality of ‘Paradise Cinema’ is a stunningly effective realisation of Wyllie’s experience, in a hypnagogic state of aural consciousness: “I had a lot of nights in Dakar, when the music around the city would go on until 6am. I could hear this from my bed at night and it all blended together, in what felt like an early version of the record.” https://paradise-cinema.bandcamp.com/album/paradise-cinema ronfint 1 Link to comment

Popular Post sphinxsix
Check this out guys, you may hear and learn some things that will surprise you. Excavated Shellac: An Alternate History of the World’s Music includes 100 recordings and 100 stories in an extensive, illustrated PDF with detailed, contextual mini-histories about both musical origins and the beginnings of the recording industry, touching on the complexities of colonialism, economic agendas, and cultural tourism. With almost all of the tracks never before reissued, this collection expands upon and acts as a companion to Jonathan Ward’s Excavated Shellac website, a unique repository of music, history, and data on 78 rpm recordings from around the world, rarely heard and seldom seen. https://dust-digital.com/listen https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/jan/26/kyrgyzstan-ballads-okinawan-folk-ugandan-hymns-the-album-rewriting-global-music-history-excavated-shellac christopher3393 and semente 1 1 Link to comment

Yeah, I guess imagining fusion of Iraqi music and Ornette Coleman like, free-harmolodic jazz may be quite difficult to some but this is what ElSaffar's music sounds like. And it works! semente 1 Link to comment
