Once capacitor bank is fully charged (it may take up to 4h first time!) , the output voltage will remain constant assuming that Hydra ZPM is left powered on.

In other words, for a stable output voltage under load it remains powered from the AC mains.

The JS1 is galvanically isolated from the AC mains supply. The ZPM isn't' , even when using a Linear supply,(or their description would have said so) while ever it is still connected to it's mains supply.

This means that if you are using a consumer grade SMPS to power the ZPM it will measure as high as half the mains voltage between it's output and earth. This leakage current may also have quite a bit of RF/EMI riding along with it.

You could use the same SMPS supply with the JS1 and there will be no measurable AC voltage to earth.

12V in one unit, and with greater current capability? That means a great many more and larger ultracapacitors,

 

As the working voltage of a Supercapacitor is typically 2.7V, you would need parallel banks of at least 5 series connected capacitors for use at 12V, or use Supercaps where this has already been done by the manufacturer..

Also I think John has said the LPS-1 requires 3A so it's also not powerful enough anyway.

 

The power requirements are 12V/1.5A, 9V/2A, or 7.5V/2.5A

If you guys are referring to the attached, it's NOT suitable to use with the LPS1 !!!

It's fine for the Regen though, which needs no more than around 500 mA

Do yourselves a favour and pay a little more for the Meanwell as well.

You can try suitable Linear PSUs later.

Somehow I think you are going to have to build a VERY LNA to obtain meaningful measurements, or see proper waveforms with this PSU ! You may have to turn off all the lights and other stuff too !!!

Does the LPS-1 have feet attached underneath ?

 

If not, perhaps you could fit 4 self adhesive rubber feet underneath it to improve the air flow around it if you are concerned about it getting too warm when it is used at full power.

John would not design a unit that gets overly warm, as that would decrease it's longevity.

Yep ! But if I was in the market for another USB "File Integrity improver", I wouldn't jump in yet and grab an existing product from elsewhere.

Another way to do it is put an Intona after the PPA, then into a REGEN powered from an LPS-1. It will sound marvelous, but you are NOT using the advantage you get from the PPA card that way.

 

Better still, may be to wait for a soon to be announced officially, new generation USB Regen designed by John which also offers isolation.
