Pioner N-50A Tidal and Android?

Recommended Posts

Not with the Android Tidal app. Unless you root the Android device, there's currently no way of capturing and network streaming the devices's audio (unlike the way you can using AirPlay on iPhones & iPads) to UPnP/DLNA and/or AirPlay supporting streamers like the Pioneer N-50A.

Having said that, the BubbleUPnP Android app, which makes an excellent UPnP/DLNA controller, also has a UPnP/DLNA media server function that not only allows you to stream music files stored on the Android device it also allows you to stream music files from a number of online/cloud services, including Tidal. So it would actually get the Pioneer to stream the actual FLAC file received from Tidal, ie, so not just the audio capture of the Tidal app playing the Tidal file on the Android device you were hoping to get.

You can test this process out before getting the N-50A, by using the BubbleUPnP Android apps own built-in UPnP streamer, the Local Renderer, to play the files from Tidal.

There is one potential problem in getting the N-50A to stream the actual Tidal files using the BubbleUPnP app and that is that it doesn't support gapless playback. This isn't because of the Tidal source nor because of the BubbleUPnP app, but is a problem with the Pioneer streamers themselves. They do not support gapless playback if you use a (3rd party) UPnP/DLNA controller with them.

JRiver has a built-in UPnP/DLNA renderer, hence why it can be controlled by a UPnP/DLNA controller, like the BubbleUPnP Android app. Just in case you missed it the first time I mentioned it, the Pioneer N-50A also supports UPnP/DLNA.

Squeezebox type streamers are not UPnP/DLNA supporting streamers. What made you think they are?
