iFi iLink problems on MacBook Pro

I just got an iFi iLink. I've connected it to a MacBook Pro and I'm using the coaxial (normal level) output into a SPDIF DAC.

 

It works when I play music through JRiver, but Mac OS sounds and any other source of sound (such as other media players) produces nothing but static.

 

Furthermore, if I'm not playing something in JRiver, there is a lower level of background static (it's not totally silent).

 

Any ideas? iFi doesn't provide a Mac driver, so I basically have no options, no software settings to tweak.

 

I'm opening an iFi ticket as well.
