RAM ECC or Non ECC?

Recommended Posts

My Supermicro X11SSH-F support RAM DDR4 ECC and non ECC type, what's the best?

Depends what you want it to do. Supermicro is usually a server board for something like a NAS, for which you'd want ECC to prevent data corruption.

In a different use case for which you'd more likely be using a different board - a gaming machine, for example - non-ECC RAM could be a touch faster.

And for music streaming it doesn't matter at all. Data corruption is rare enough that the computer is more likely to crash for other reasons. A storage system is special since if corruption does occur it risks becoming permanent.
