seems interesting their claims of royalty paybacks to artists and looks like many new artists and many genres

This one time, at Bandcamp...

I bought an album from Car Seat Headrest and the tracks are true 24/88. :)

I have bought several albums from Bandcamp, but the majority have been just redbook.

Bandcamp is for artists/bands who are not signed to a label and want to sell their tracks/albums through Bandcamp themselves. The files are provided by the artists themselves and Bandcamp urges them to provide high-res flac files as well but it is up to the artists what resolution and bitrate they upload. What is annoying though is that you never know what the resolution is only after purchase :(

Lots of very notable labels are actually on bandcamp as well, such as Ninja Tunes, Planet Mu, R&S Records, hyperdub, Editions Mego, DFA etc..

I agree it would be great if the resolution would be indicated as sometimes you don't get the high res files, even if they are available elsewhere ...I am looking at you My Morning Jacket! :-(

Some artists do take it upon themselves to indicate resolution, e.g. Alexis Perälä's amazing Colundi Sequence, most of it being 24/192:

The rest is just pot luck. The simple truth is: not enough people care what resolution they get, most probably still download mp3.

I have a couple of buddies who are musicians and they sell via BandCamp. It's also a good place to checkout other musicians.

I haven't checked if they're true 24/96.

I've found a number of artists where you can buy their albums both on Bandcamp and from other, more commercial outlets, eg Sufran Stevens, Fela Kuti. The Bandcamp price for their music actually tends to be a little higher, but I'm happy to pay it as the artist gets 85% (or in Fela Kuti's case, his family gets it presumably).
