I've been involved in their beta testing program since the start of BDP-9x development. I can't share much in the way of details (NDA's still apply), but what an AMAZING company to work with. When I heard the news last evening shortly before it was posted publicly, it was like I had just lost a favorite family member. Link to comment

Agreed. Even before the announcement the other day I felt that it was extremely unlikely that a future firmware update for the BDP-10x players would block this capability. [email protected]
I have got a Sony BDP-BX59 and it works fine for ripping SACD by using @Phthalocyanine's guide for SONY BDP-S590. However, the sound of one channel (SR) of a 5.1 channel SACD is missing when playing back the iso. Anyone has similar experience? Link to comment

If you are ripping 5.0 and your system expects 5.1/6.0, there may be a mismatch. JediJoker 1 Kal Rubinson Senior Contributing Editor, Stereophile Link to comment

If you are using a 7.1 system, the channels may not be mapped correctly. This speculation comes from my experience with playing a wide variety of recorded channel formats and their interaction with output channel mapping is, sometimes, strange. [email protected]
I use foobar2000 to play the iso file. The Win 10 PC connects to a Yamaha AV amp by a HDMI cable. Is there any trick to play a 5.1 channel iso? Same problem occurs in the dsf files converted by sonore. Link to comment
Popular Post JuanDG
Another satisfied customer of the Sony BDP-S590! Bought it used off of eBay for ~$40 with shipping. Arrived next day Infinite thanks to @Dick Darlington @ted_b @Phthalocyanine for their detailed posts. Word of caution on the Firmware version! My unit came with version M12.R.03xx (forgot to write down the exact number) and I saw @Phthalocyanine recommendation to not upgrade it, so I started following all the instructions with no success. I tinkered for several hours and was about to give up but decided to update the firmware to the latest (M12.R.0510) and that's when everything magically started to work. I'm using a Mac and a cheapo EMTEC 8GB flash drive. The trick for formatting the flash drive on MacOS is to use the Terminal to wipe it clean first. Plug-in the flash drive, open terminal and type `diskutil list` and write down the path of the usb drive, for instance /dev/disk3. Then wipe it by typing `diskutil eraseDisk FREE TEST /dev/<your disk path>` on the terminal. After that you can go back to Disk Utility and click on `Erase` and the option to set it as Master Boot will be present again. After that I simply copied the AutoScript folder linked by @Dick Darlington and modified AutoScript and Autoscript.TSS to use `telnetd` instead of `inetd` and dropped in sacd_extract_160 on the folder as well. Then I plugged the flash drive to the S590 before turning it on as suggested by @kennyb123 and after a few seconds of booting I finally got the 0000 flashing on the LCD screen (success!). Then I opened the tray manually inserted my first SACD, navigated to `Music Settings` on the S590 and toggled the SACD playback channel option as indicated by @Phthalocyanine and I was ready to go. Went back to the Terminal, installed telnet using Homebrew (brew install telnet) and followed @ted_b original instructions for telnet: $ telnet 10.0.1.40 Trying 10.0.1.40... Connected to 10.0.1.40. Escape character is '^]'. sony-player login: root ~ # uname -a Linux sony-player 2.6.35 #1 PREEMPT Fri Nov 7 15:30:16 JST 2014 armv6l GNU/Linux ~ # cd /mnt/sda1/AutoScript /mnt/sda1/AutoScript # ls AutoScript AutoScript.TSS sacd_extract_160 /mnt/sda1/AutoScript # ./sacd_extract_160 -S & SACD Daemon 0.37 active. Client none. SACD disc inserted. Finally I fired up ISO2DSD on the Mac, typed the player's IP address and hit Execute. That's it! My biggest struggle as I mentioned was being on older firmware, as soon as I updated, everything went really smooth. Hope this helps other people on this journey. Feel free to ask any questions and thanks again to this amazing community. kennyb123 and Les Habitants 1 1 Link to comment
Phthalocyanine
@JuanDG Congratulations on your success! Thanks for sharing your experiences about the firmware. This raises the issue that very early firmware might be an issue. We think that firmware M12.R.0430 through the most recent will work. For the recent crop of people using the Sony - naa3e5 , kab, Rightsaidfred, [email protected], & whoever else, please post your firmware version so we can gather more information of this issue. Music37
Hi, I have got a Sony BDP-S490 and it works fine with the firmware M12.R.0510 (I tried with the firmware M.12.R.0320 but it did not work.) I ripped my first SACD with the Klassikmann's guide (Scenario 2: No network connection i.e. no telnet). Thank you JediJoker 1 Link to comment

Do you have to (or can you) specify the output channel format? I know that with JRiver I need to set the output format to 5.1 (rather than same as input) in order to have proper playback on my 8channel DACs. Guest skepitcal
+1 on the Sony BDP-S590 , working as advertised for me too. Many thx to @Phthalocyanine @Dick Darlington for scoping/sweating this out! @ted_b: Apologies if this has already been addressed elsewhere in the 117 pages of this thread, but any chance of posting or pointing to the specific code and/or patches for sacd_extract_160? The original sacd-ripper code is configured with a psl1ght dependancy, which I'm assuming you got rid of when building your version? The reason I ask is that sacd_extract_160 fails with discs authored using 2064 byte sectors instead of the usual 2048. This is solved/fixed in foo_input_sacd (see sacd_disc_t::open and sacd_disc_t::read_blocks_raw) , and an outdated patch to backport the fix to sacd-ripper is (somewhat crudely) described here in issue 89. Of course it would be great if you still have an arm6 toolchain and are willing to patch and rebuild (and save me the headache of setting up a cross compiler myself). Anyhow any pointers/background on rebuilding the non-ps3 Arm version of sacd_extract would be appreciated. Link to comment
