SACD Ripping using an Oppo or Pioneer? Yes, it's true!

Hello

I would like to ask for your advice on how to get it working - still couldn't succeed till now.

I GUESS the problem is related to the LAN connection, but that's just a guess.

Please feel free to suggest another procedure - but only if well documented please.

Please let me know, if you need additional information.

Description:

I try to follow the following procedure: "SACD Backup (Awake-Server Method)"

(2019 by Phthalocyanine and Undertone for Audiophile Style)

After several attempts I successfully followed the instructions to initiate the BDP-S590 with my remote. In the next step I startet the software "ISO2DSD" and hit "Execute". But unfortunately nothing happens.

The IP address I use is correct as I can "see" the BDP-S590 in my router.

But I'm not sure the software to BDP-S5900 connection is set up correctly.

I later try to ping the BDP-S590 from my Mac and I get a strange response:

64 bytes from 192.168.178.35: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.369 ms

64 bytes from 192.168.178.35: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.341 ms

64 bytes from 192.168.178.35: icmp_seq=8 ttl=64 time=0.349 ms

this goes on for ever....

I believe that's not correct - is it?

my setting

macOS Catalina 10.15.7

Sony BDP-S590

LAN connection (both (Mac and BDP-S590) are connected via Switch)

Sonor - ISO2DSD

The USB-Stick

It's a JetFlash Transcend 32GB, formate to FAT32 (with "Master Boot Record")

(For the preparation I followed "The SACD Ripper's Guide to macOS Media Formatting Universe (Updated April 6, 2018)")

The USB-Stick has one folder "AutoScript" with the following content:

  • autorip.sh
  • AutoScript
  • sacd_extract_160

content of the Autoscript:

#MTKAT 0.xx script
CLI(CLI_exec cp /mnt/sd*/AutoScript/sacd_extract_160 /)
CLI(CLI_exec insmod /lib/modules/2.6.35/BDP/splitter.ko)

Still having problems

@Graf_Orlok

@MikeyFresh

@wouterk

thanks for helping! I changed the content of the USB-stick.

I tried the folder from GRAF_ORLOK and I tried the content provided by MIKEYFRESH - Still can't start the ripping.

Description

I changed the content of my USB-Stick to the recommended content. Thanks to GRAF_ORLOK and MIKEYFRESH

I successfully ping my BDP-S590 - So LAN is functioning (I changed the name of the device within my router - I guess this has no relevance for the software "iso2dsd" - as it uses the IP address.

I follow the procedure "SACD Backup (Awake-Server Method)", I  start "iso2dsd_gui.jar", the correct IP is selected, but nothing happens after "Execute".

On my Mac:

- Within the directory User/MeMyself/documents/ is the folder "iso2dsd"

- this folder has the following content:

  • iso2dsd_gui.jar
  • sacd_extract
  • SACDExtractGUI.jar
  • USE_AT_YOUR_OWN_RISK
  • version.txt
  • folder "src"
  • folder "doc"

All but "iso2dsd_gui.jar" are from the same source.

I'm have no idea how to locate my mistake. Help is very much appriciated.

@MikeyFresh

Concerning the sacd_extract file

If I get information ("cmd"I) on sacd_extract

@MikeyFresh

@Graf_Orlok

Concerning the method

for now I would like to focus on the "SACD Backup (Awake-Server Method)"

If I can't get it working - that's a different question.

@Graf_Orlok

Concerning your questions

  • Firmware: not sure - I found "ESN: Sony-HAV12KL1108D66E0-LZVK00EJTU" (menu / configuration / system-configuration / system-information
    I also used "network-update" and the BDP-S590 answers: "already actual"
  • quick-start-modus: on

Thanks for your help - and - I hope we get closer to a solution.

I like to verify my procedure on handling sacd.iso files.

The ISO file is generated with the iso2dsd software (OS X v1) by the sleep-server method.

As far as I experienced the software iso2dsd features also the output into single tracks:

Output Mode: Sony DSF (as far as I understand a format for DSD). They play just fine!

My Question

  • DSF is a format for DSD - is this correct?
  • A DSD / DSF file has only one Channel Mode: Dual OR Multi
  • If I want to keep dual and multi Channel versions I have to options:
    • keep the iso
    • generate two extractions of the tracks from the iso (one multi / one dual) - than discard iso
  • I'm using JRiver as my music-server-software. As far as I understand the sacd.iso can be handled by JRiver directly (https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/DSD) - JRiver can distinguish between different tracks within the sacd.iso. Even JRemote (iOS-app to connect with iPhone / iPad to JRiver) can play sacd.iso!
    • The only disadvantage of using the sacd.iso: the bad handling of Metadata for sacd.iso compared to DSF-files is this correct?
  • I would appreciate if someone would have an idea how to stream & play hires (DSD) directly on my iPhone - but maybe that's asking for to the impossible?

Thanks for your help!
