SeeMoreDigital
Hello everyone, Now that I'm able to back-up my (store bought) SACD's to .ISO files, where's an appropriate place on the forum to discuss creating 'continuous' DSF files? Many thanks I SUPPORT 'FAIR USE'. SeeMoreDigital
By "continuous" do you mean one large album file or do you mean tracks that are gapless?Hi Ted, Ideally, one large/long dsf file. SeeMoreDigital
Then extract to DFF edit master (an option in Sonore's ISO2DSD GUI) and then convert to DSF using Jussi's DFF2DSF (although there is less reason to go to DSF since you are not tagging tracks).Sonore APPS - ISO2DSD Signalyst I suppose I could use Sonore's 'DSDDIFF Edit Master' mode along with it's (or my own) Cue file for use with my Oppo BDP-103 player. I'll give it a go and report back I SUPPORT 'FAIR USE'. SeeMoreDigital
Well I've hit a stumbling block. My Oppo has no problems playing the 2 channel .dsf tracks that Sonore creates. But it does not seem to like the 2 channel .dff files that Sonore creates! Has anyone else experienced this playback behavior on their Oppos? Good luck with that. OPPOs are very picky about cue sheets. I can't say I've had too much of a problem with this. I've backed-up all my audio CD to Flac with Cue sheets and they work okay I SUPPORT 'FAIR USE'. SeeMoreDigital
IIRC, OPPO is unable to play DST .dff tracks. So you'll need to check "Convert DST to DSD" before pushing "Execute" button. Thanks tymoxa, This makes sense as the .dst file sizes are much the same as the .dsf file sizes. Sorry for being such a newbie. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon. I'm just so pleased that I'm finally able to back-up and store my SACD's.... I SUPPORT 'FAIR USE'. SeeMoreDigital
Thanks everyone... "Everything is going extremely well" I've already backed-up several of my SACD's to DVD-R and ripped them to .dff files. One thing that I do find surprising are the sizes of extracted .dff files, they are huge compared to the .ISO. I SUPPORT 'FAIR USE'. SeeMoreDigital
Speaking as somebody who's been backing-up their SACD's using the 'AutoScript' folder and 'Sonore iso2dvd' method since Aug 2016, it's got me wondering.... Might it be technically possible for other exploits to be created for backing-up say, regular audio CD's, DVD-A's, movie DVD's or even Blu-ray discs? I SUPPORT 'FAIR USE'. I'm already doing this. I'm just interested to know if it's "technically" possible to extract data from other types of discs too?! I SUPPORT 'FAIR USE'. SeeMoreDigital
15 hours ago, Phthalocyanine said: @SeeMoreDigital Yes it is possible. On a S590 in which you have root control, you can use the Linux commands to copy files from a DVD or BD in the optical drive to a USB drive . I've done it as an experiment. But here's the problem and why it is no big deal. For copy-protected discs You're just copying encrypted data. To rip these discs in the sense of getting useful data you need a de-encryption program. That's what SACD_extract is doing. It's not just copying the data, it is de-encrypting it.... Hi @Phthalocyanine Many thanks for the detailed response. Even though there are softwares available for decrypting other disc formats, it sounds like a lot of effort. Cheers I SUPPORT 'FAIR USE'. Surround tracks are normally compressed (not sure if it's mandatory though). One thing you can try is to convert a local ISO of the ripped disc to DSF on a PC . If you see tens of MB/s, that disc is probably not compressed. From what I understand, DST compression is mandatory for multi-channel SACD content and optional for stereo SACD content... It's all about the partitions and the file system..... Agreed. And for anybody who knows about these things. If there were changes made to the software/scripts, could it be possible to save an entire SACD back-up as an .iso file directly to an 8GB+ USB stick? ie: without having to network the player to a computer ;) I SUPPORT 'FAIR USE'.
