HiFiInsider
I've been using AccurateRip app (Rip from sbooth.org) for Mac, but it's been a long time since it was updated. Any recommendations for a modern CD ripper app that's best for archiving? Thanks for your help. Mike http://www.youtube.com/hifiguy528/videos Link to comment
Paul R
I really like XLD myself. Price is right too. Don't let the info page fool you, it has a really nice, clean, and usable GUI interface. -Paul X Lossless Decoder: Lossless audio decoder for Mac OS X Anyone who considers protocol unimportant has never dealt with a cat DAC. HiFiInsider
Thank you for the recommendation. I'll have to give XLD a go. Any suggestions on settings to get the best rip possible? I'm using Apple CD drive. http://www.youtube.com/hifiguy528/videos Link to comment
sbank
One comment is to rip at slower speed if you try any really scratched up disks, or if initial rip report shows any errors. It will go slowly, but usually slogs its way through successfully. Because need serious researches of big number dedicated test CDs. [in general words, our ripping technology described here Safe Audio CD Ripping Technology] Main problem for such researches may be unknown original binary content of third party’s CDs. For tests of safety degree (number of detected/restored real errors) we use special damaged CDs with exactly known binary content (created from own WAVs). For tests need several such CDs with different audio content and different damaging degree. After extracting CD, ripped WAVs binary compared with original WAVs and estimated: 1. Number of non-restored (by both CD-drive and the CD ripper) bytes. 2. Length in track before first non-restored byte. 3. Displaying [fatal] / [probable restored] error at user interface of the ripper. It allow take full control under correctness of test results.
