thrand1
Downloaded as a DSD ISO from Pentatone Classics. The ISO was packaged in a ZIP file along with nice size cover art (1400x1400 pixels), the album booklet, and another folder which contains the tracks as MP3 files for convenience. The two channel tracks were loaded into Foobar and processed through the Dynamic Range Meter (with the caveat I'm not sure what conversions occur for the DR Meter to process the DSD files, and if it has any impact on the rating!). Amazing sound quality to match an amazing performance. foobar2000 1.3.7 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 log date: 2016-04-21 14:22:38 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Analyzed: Julia Fischer - violin, Russian National Orchestra, conducted by: Yakov Kreizberg / Tchaikovsky - Violin Concerto in D ; Sérénade mélancolique ; Valse - Scherzo ; Souvenir d'un lieu cher -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DR Peak RMS Duration Track -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DR15 0.00 dB -20.22 dB 18:06 01-Violin Concerto in D, Op. 35 - Allegro moderato DR13 -8.22 dB -24.89 dB 6:45 02-Violin Concerto in D, Op. 35 - Canzonetta (Andante) DR16 0.00 dB -20.85 dB 10:04 03-Violin Concerto in D, Op. 35 - Finale (Allegro vivacissimo) DR14 -5.74 dB -23.92 dB 9:28 04-Sérénade mélancolique, Op. 26 - Andante DR15 -2.36 dB -22.27 dB 7:46 05-Valse - Scherzo, Op. 34 - Allegro (Tempo di Valse) DR16 -2.12 dB -21.91 dB 9:18 06-Souvenir d'un lieu cher, Op. 42 - Méditation DR15 -1.38 dB -20.11 dB 3:15 07-Souvenir d'un lieu cher, Op. 42 - Scherzo DR15 -3.58 dB -22.89 dB 3:22 08-Souvenir d'un lieu cher, Op. 42 - Mélodie -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Number of tracks: 8 Official DR value: DR15 Samplerate: 2822400 Hz / PCM Samplerate: 176400 Hz Channels: 2 Bits per sample: 24 Bitrate: 5645 kbps Codec: DST64 ================================================================================ Office: iPod classic/iPad -> Shure SE425 IEM Home: Oppo BDP-83/Synology DS211j -> Integra DTR-7.8 -> Revel speakers Link to comment
Carzee45
It's one of the best performances I've heard for a long time and almost knocked Heifetz off my No 1 spot. She's a special player. Ste Link to comment
Musicophile
Agree, certainly one of the best Tchaikovsky's out there. Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment
EuroChamp
I would like to recommend Ruggiero Ricci, London Symphony Orchestra (Sir Malcolm Sargent) from 1961. I got it from HDTT. Link to comment
semente
Fischer's Tchaikovsky VC has been on my wish list for ages but I already have a few recordings of this concert. My preferred version is probably this one: R "Science draws the wave, poetry fills it with water" Teixeira de Pascoaes HQPlayer Desktop / Mac mini → Intona 7054 → RME ADI-2 DAC FS (DSD256) Link to comment
thrand1
For anyone out there who was considering getting this: Pentatone is running a promotion for 25% off of this album with the promo code "XMAS16". Not sure of the end date, but it should be either Christmas or the end of the year.
