My Second Audio PC (PPA + Teradak + HDPLEX H5 2nd + JCAT+SOtM Absorber)

There is one item that can still improve on what you have Naidiver and that is the Intona USB Isolator on the USB out.

With OCXO's and lots of PPA gear, JCat USB card, Teradak and Paul Hynes Supplies adding the Intona made a big difference for me.

I brought it to a group meet and everyone was surprised at the improvement it made.

Nice work by the way!

Audio PC - Gigabyte H97M-D3H, i7 at 800Mhz, RAM at 800Mhz & PPA OCXO Mobo, Teradak ATX Linear for 20 pin ATX on Mobo, Paul Hynes SR7EHD 12v, 5v & 5v supply on Mobo, Stammheim 12x LT3045's for 1.3v to RAM direct supply, JCat V2 USB Card, WTFPlay Linux Audiophile Player control by MELE F10, Startech LEX to REX on 12v Paul Hynes with 2x SLC cards and out by POE to ISO/Regen, PPA Red USB Cable, Lampizator Big7, Nige design Lifepo4 powered amp, Raidho C1s.

Sligolad, could you detail a bit about your Intona connection. Which connectors are you finding best SQ? Have you tried a Regen following the Intona for Impedance matching and reclocking?

Antona? What is it?

I really don't know.

PPA USB card isolate signal and power line to 2 cables.

Which part i have to connect it?

I have a JCat USB card with 5v Paul Hynes Linear supply providing the 5v out through a PPA Red USB cable into the Intona.

I then have a short Supra USB into Amber Regen and then another short Supra into the Amanero USB in the DAC.

The Intona makes the biggest difference in the chain.

I can't find edit tool. Where is it?

anyway... I will describe them here instead.

Edit capability disappears after 30 mins I think :)

Thanks for the additional info!

One more question: for your motherboard, did you buy something which had specific clean USB power implementation (like Gigabyte or maybe MSI have) or you did not bother since you added the other specialised cards? It could be interesting for me to know your specific motherboard model.

Very nice build!

This model don't have separate usb power or specific usb port for audio but it is not necessary for me. I use PPA usb card with separate ext LPSU for it only.

My first PC, i use Gigabyte z97 sniper mainboard which it has seperate audio usb portbwith seperate clean usb power.

It sounds better, cleaner than typical usb port but yeah.. It's good in acceptable level but not an audiophile level as PPA USB card provided.

However the noise from other usb equipments still occure especially from keyboard or the others which there're IC on it.

I use usb power filter on it. It's called " golden fish " - product of windows x who develope Fidelizer programe..

I have gotten the impression that any type of usb power filtering will make a diiference, even the cheaper Jitterbug (which I use) and the reason is simply because it is such a noisy interface.

Now, which filter does a better job I wouldn't know, but it is interesting to see 2-3 different filters working inline together - that was quite unexpected to me.

Thus, I have to wonder in the end? Do they all do the same thing or are they handling different parts of the noise and thus are able to work together?

My mind tells me that we should need just 1 filter prior to a clock or DAC and not 2 or 3 working together. Am I missing something with all these Regens/Intonas/Remedies/Jitterbugs/etc?

I ordered this case, it, and the LPS arrive tomorrow.

HDPlex offers 2 different LPS units, a 300W one with the full complement of ATX power wiring, and a pass through connection for the case. I ordered the 100W LPS, which passes 19v DC to the jack, necessitating the part in the case to provide the ATX wires. Both have additional outputs, including 9v out for an audiophile USB card, or, as in my case an in line USB widget (W4S Recovery for my system).

My previous PC build is in an older HDPlex case which is smaller, and has smaller heat sinking, and little space left inside. The new case will accommodate an i7, a half high USB card, and even a video card that could be used to offload processing via CUDA.

I don't plan as ambitious a build as presented by the OP, but I planned my build with the capacity to do some of this as time goes by, and my interest allows.

This case has a hinged front plate, behind which a CD/DVD could be placed, something I am not utilizing.

Nice build NAIDIVER.

Hi Naidiver,

Very glad to hear that you finally built your own server! Congratulations! how is the sound difference by using our absorber?

Yeah.. It can imrpove the sound actually.

I've ever tried many of filters but one thing that i don't like is its side effect.

Ok.. the noise is almost gone but the sound seem to be loss some airy and ambience.

Soung stage is narrower than before using it.

But for SOtM work very well. it just reduce the noise while the sound is still wide open soundstage and still maintain airy and ambience.

That is what i'm impressed with your absorber sheet, May.. ^_^

The PPA parts can sound amazing but their reliability can be problematic. Did you find any problems with your PPA parts? I recently purchased SSDs, SATA cables, USB card, pico, mobo, memory etc. and found many items to be defective. Unfortunately there's been no real response from Pang to my complaints so I've lost a lot of money. What did work however contributes to a very nice sounding server.

Naidiver, curious about the placement of the SOtM material on the inside of the case. What components are these meant to affect? I presume they are directly over and under these?

Everything is fine. No problem at all.

Only one thing is sata plug. It seems not to fit and tight well enough.

If sometime it can't boot, check it first.

Paul always don't reply any mail quick. Sometime make me upset as well.

But now i forget all of them.

It sounds amazing..

I affiixed it under cpu (bottom plate) and under ram and also under I/O port.

I've tried many filters which deal with signal path or power line paths. All of those things have at least one side effect to SQ. (narrower soundstage and lack of Airy and ambience as everyone knew about that.

I am very curious about this comment, is this just one persons experience, is there a ground behind it? Any one else who felt the same?

You know my opinion, at least as far as power is concerned. It can't hurt but unnecessary if your powering separately with different rail or power supply. As far as data leads is concerned, definitely a bad thing, totally unnecessary.

Yes.. If power system is as good as above mentioned, believe me.. Power Filter will be unnecessary. It will degrade your SQ.

1 For my Audio PC as my photo attached on this thread, I found unnecessary to use it.

2 For my another regular PC, all filter make the sound better (Worth to use it.) Quieter. Lower muddy voice. Cleaner treble.

I use 2 SOtM fanfilters one for cpu fan and the other one for VGA card fan (via 4 to 3 pin adapter) 1 Efidelity power filter and 1 Golden Fish USB power filter.

Yeah. I know. But you can't say abracadraba and then money come infront of you..

Everybody have their own dream setup. It's up to your upgrade plan. You may allocate your total budget to each items. But i will upgrade one piece at a time. That's my choice.

So after upgrade speaker, what should be next in your opinion?
