That will not work.

Jesus R

So Jesus, I take it that the reason it will not work is the "none compatibility" issue of the exaSound ASIO Driver still?

Or are there other issues that I am missing?

Thanks in advance.

Jesus answered a lightly different twist on your question early. It was similar and one I had, specifically if a I could use the connection of

Mac Mini running RoonServer (connected via ethernet ) to microRendu ( connected via USB ) to DAC.

The answer no has to do with the direct ethernet connect between Mac Mini and microRendu not supported. At least in my case it was.

I believe this is because the microRendu is not discoverable by the Mac Mini in this scenario.

Yes, I see your point but that was not my intent. I did not mean that the Ethernet connection be direct from Mac Mini to the microRendu. I planed on using a Router between between the Mac Mini and the microRendu.

So Jesus, IF I use the Router is it then doable?

Would I be correct to suggest the microRendu's price is going to compete with the Aries Mini? So I am guessing around $399-$499 - it makes sense I think. Either way it seems like a great product!

Of course, the absolute best would be to charge it $199-$299 and attract everyone...just a suggestion...(wink) (wink)

My guess is that the price of the microRendu will be based on cost + enough to make a reasonable profit, and have nothing to do with the price of the Aries Mini. IMO, the devices aren't targeted at the same market. The microRendu isn't a player or a DAC. The Mini is. The Mini isn't considered a high-end audiophile device, even by Auralic. The microRendu definitely is being positioned as a high end device.

The Auralic and Sonore devices aren't functionally/conceptually the same. If they were, the Sonic Orbiter SE would be more of a competitor to the mini and the microRendu more of a competitor to the full Aries.

Since the Sonic Orbiter SE costs $299 and is functionally very similar to the microRendu, I think you can expect the microRendu to cost substantially more than that. Bespoke design and production isn't going to be sold for nothing.

Jesus and company have to make a living, you know, and pricing acc'd to whatever the Mini costs won't help them get there. Auralic has said publicly that they are taking a LOSS on every mini they sell in the US (not elsewhere) b/c of the free Tidal subscription. Apparently they consider it more important in the short term to gain market share and accustom the wider music listening public to streaming.

Main listening (small home office):

Main setup: Surge protector +>Isol-8 Mini sub Axis Power Strip/Isolation>QuietPC Low Noise Server>Roon (Audiolense DRC)>Stack Audio Link II>Kii Control>Kii Three (on their own electric circuit) >GIK Room Treatments.

Secondary Path: Server with Audiolense RC>RPi4 or analog>Cayin iDAC6 MKII (tube mode) (XLR)>Kii Three .

Bedroom: SBTouch to Cambridge Soundworks Desktop Setup.
Living Room/Kitchen: Ropieee (RPi3b+ with touchscreen) + Schiit Modi3E to a pair of Morel Hogtalare.

All absolute statements about audio are false :)

Personally, I think that if Auralic didn't want to release an "audiophile streamer" they would have kept the price much lower and wouldn't have included a quality DAC (as is reviewed) and tried to approach the masses. So, allow me to believe that their target audience is indeed audiophiles first (probably entry to mid-fi) and everyone else second...just my 2p of course!

Either way, the microRendu seems like an interesting piece of gear and I'd like to try it out!!

At RMAF, Mr. Wang the CEO of Auralic, told me he is aiming the Auralic mini at the millennial market. He said this market is "where it's at". He was clearly excited about the future of this product. Strangely the Auralic demo room was practically empty. You can read more here:

http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2015/10/auralic-aries-mini-rmaf-2015-minimalism-10-things/

The Auralic mini is meant as an entry level device for a new generation of audiophiles.

It seems to me that the microRendu is targeted at the high-end computer audiophile market for established audiophiles with external DACs. I could be wrong, but after talking, I walked away with the impression that Mr. Wang was no longer interested in the high end audiophile market.

They need to provide drivers to the open source community or there will be no support. The only option that could work is a USB to SPDIF converter.

Just to be sure. I use BubbleDS Next as a control point on my Android device with Tidal. This will work on the microRendu with Bubble UPNP Server installed on the microRendu right?

It should work and no need to add BubbleUPNP Server. However, I like to use BubbleUPNP Server to enable OpenHome on my renderers.

Thanks Jesus. I am very disappointed in exaSound in not providing the Drivers to the community. I have a VERY strong interest in the microRendu but I want to be able to get the most out of it and my DAC and that means a direct USB connection.

I will make my displeasure known to George at exaSound. Hopefully if enough owners express the same he will cooperate and release the Drivers to the community.

Again, many thanks.

Just get a different dac. That will prove the point when you exaSound owners start to sell them off. There are many good dacs out there that sound as good or better for the same cost.

It's still weird that some manufacturers don't support Linux yet, especially since most major products use Linux...

This is different....they actually support it on their Linux device.

Jason, sometimes you state the obvious. But please do not spend MY money for me.

I OBVIOUSLY like my exaSound DAC for my own reasons. Yes, someday I will replace it. Maybe with another exaSound and maybe not. I will decide when the time is right for ME.

THE POINT is if George would just do the right thing and release the Linux Code to the Open Source Community, I and other exaSound DAC owners would not have this issue, whether its is the microRendu or another.

To hifial ... exaSound clearly wants owners of exaSound DACs to buy a PlayPoint. So with an exaSound DAC you are buying into their ecosystem.

I see. Maybe it isn't so obvious since this has been an ongoing issue with this dac. Further, this is a public forum so I'll continue to state my opinion.

Well, he hasn't done the right thing for a while now. Hence the reason I made the suggestion. Sometimes it's easier to just move along since your request seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
