2string1
Does the Vega require a special USB cable? One without the power leg. The Vega supplies it's own 5 volt power. Link to comment
tallica1
The Auralic Vega does not require or need a 5V power USB. I am in the process of currently auditioning the Curious USB cable from Australia without the 5V that has received rave reviews by the media. DAR recommendation is quite influential. http://www.curiouscables.com Link to comment
2string1
Thanks...I have one on order. For 20 bucks more I can get the power leg with a connector so I can disconnect it. That way I'll have both. How are you liking the cable? Link to comment
2string1
Change of plans. I have one coming without the 5v leg. Saved 20 bucks from original price.Hope the revues are true... I'm using S/pdif right now with my Aries and Vega. I'm not sure if I'll hear a difference playing only redbook and radio... Link to comment
Hauser
I'm not sure that will work. I recall reading that although the 5v is not used, the leg is used for initial communication. You may want to do some more research before committing to going powerless. Link to comment
r_w
My VEGA handshakes without 5v. If yours doesn't, use a normal cable and then replace it after handshake, that will work if you keep everything powered up as I do. You mean I would have to keep the Aries and Vega full on or just standby? Link to comment

r_w
Not sure, but most would recommend leaving them both on in any case. The Auralic name shows but the volume doesn't. I do not turn it off by the switch in the back... Just with the remote. Link to comment
tallica1
The Auralic VEGA does not require the 5V to operate. There is no purpose for this option on this Curious USB cable or any other cable. I am still reviewing this cable but initial impressions "I am blown away!" Link to comment

tallica1
No worries. Hauser was misinformed! Link to comment
Hauser
Apparently so. After reading some more threads, it appears I have given you a bum steer; sorry about that. Although I have both the Vega and Aries, I use a Totaldac cable and am not qualified to say whether a data only cable will work. I was only going off my past poor recollection of others experiences. Hope I haven't caused you anguish. Link to comment
