Grateful Dead 30 Trips (USB)

Arrived today, listening now to 24/96 FLAC of the 1966 Fillmore concert. Sounds great, full-bodied and detailed.

Have to edit tracks and dates to get single concert albums.

Anyone else get this?

How can I tell if the 24/96 was up-sampled from 16/44? Were both bit depth and rate upped? How were the 1990 24/192 transfers done and why not use a similar system for the 30 Trips release? Thanks for any insight.

So far it sure sounds good!

Looking at it with Audacity (a free download -- there's a subforum here more or less devoted to this sort of thing, if you want details).

I just picked one at random, from the later recordings, but I am afraid I haven't found one that isn't like this:

They are good CD-resolution recordings, but they are cut off at 22kHz, which means they were sampled at 44.1 kHz. I didn't check the 16 vs. 24 bit resolution; maybe I should. The good thing is they didn't over-do the loudness.

I don't know the answer to the question, but poking around the dead.net site, it does look like they did something fundamentally different and better for the second half of the 1990 releases vs. the first half, from what more knowledgeable people than me have posted and commented.

Thanks very much for taking the time to explain, I will get educated on this (while listening!)

Nice touch: The album art shows the first 4 planets in their relative positions on the concert date with the Dead logo as the sun.
