romavictor
Hi guys I play tunes using an olive 1 with built in SSD hooked up to the Oppo 105D via USB. I've used a cheapo usb cable and I also tried the audioquest Carbon USB cable which still causes the music to momentarily lose signal. Doesn't happen that often to become a nuisance but it happens. Do you guys know what the solution might be for this issue? Also any recommendations for a decent USB cable would be appreciated. Thanks much Link to comment
romavictor
Not more than $200? Do you think the cable is causing the problem? Link to comment
avta
hard to say. At that price point I would suggest the Mapleshade USB cable. I'm sure others will chime in. Do you have any other cable to try? Even a printer cable may clarify things. Link to comment
romavictor
So far I've tried 2 cables. A $5 one from Amazon and the audioquest Carbon cable. Link to comment
avta
I doubt it's the cable per se Link to comment
romavictor
Which mapleshade cable do you suggest? Link to comment
avta
the least expensive one Clearlink USB 2.0 Cable - 3 Foot - Male A to Male B-shop.mapleshadestore.com This is what I use. Link to comment
romavictor
How do you like it? What have you compared it to? Link to comment
avta
I like it. I've used AQ Carbon, Straightwire, and generic cables. Nothing too expensive. I've got a Curious cable on order. Link to comment
crazychile
The cable quality and drop-outs are likely unrelated if its happening with 2 different cables. People have commented that the Schiit Wyrd and Uptone Regen can help with the drop-out issues in some cases. Link to comment
romavictor
Is the wyrd and regen a specific product or brand name? Link to comment
tranz
Might also want to look at the source. Do you have 3.1 or 3.0 USB connections? Try turning those off in the BIOS to see if that helps. Are there a lot of processes running? Virus checkers on? There are threads here on lowering your non-essential processes. Are you sharing the USB hub with other products like keyboard, mouse, etc.? Not a computer per se...so I assume not too many processes going on there during playback Link to comment
tranz
Ah, sorry I missed that. Have you tried a different destination to see wheter it is not the Oppo. I had nothing but firmware issues with Oppo and dumped mine. The cable would seem the least likely culprit. Link to comment
tubesound
Sometimes it's related to the buffer/latency settings in your music player software. Link to comment
romavictor
Sometimes it's related to the buffer/latency settings in your music player software. How do I rectify that? By Music player you mean the Oppo correct? I wonder if it allows me to tweak the buffer settings... Link to comment
CR250
Its unlikely the problem is the usb cable. Try the Olive using the built in dac and bypass the Oppo. Also, I've seen many complaints for Olive. I forget all details, but if you do a search I'm sure you'll find some of them. Link to comment

They might have a fix for it via an update. In the mean time, what do you guys think of the AQ jitterbug? Will that solve the problem? Link to comment

Does the same thing happen when you use the Olive's dac?. If you want to experiment, give The Cable Company a call. They'll send you the Jitterbug along with other options for demo. Link to comment
sandyk
You have to rule out the Oppo as the cause of the problem by trying another USB DAC /player. If the problem persists, and as you have already tried different USB cables, then you need to contact Support at Olive. How a Digital Audio file sounds, or a Digital Video file looks, is governed to a large extent by the Power Supply area. All that Identical Checksums gives is the possibility of REGENERATING the file to close to that of the original file. PROFILE UPDATED 13-11-2020 Link to comment
