I just bought this from HDTracks in 24/96 passing on the physical issue with BD disc. Haven't listened yet. What I'm wondering is if this download is the same Stereo file as from the BD?

I bought the download. It sounds good. Better than streaming from Tidal. But not fantastic SQ - probably the original tape was nothing special. The drums and bass are a little buried in the mix. If you like the Allmans, it's a worthwhile buy.

Main listening (small home office):

Main setup: Surge protector +_iFi  AC iPurifiers >Isol-8 Mini sub Axis Power Conditioning+Isolation>QuietPC Low Noise Server>Roon (Audiolense DRC)>Stack Audio Link II>Kii Control>Kii Three >GIK Room Treatments.

Secondary Listening: Server with Audiolense RC>RPi4 or analog>Matrix Element i Streamer/DAC (XLR)+Schiit Freya>Kii Three .

Bedroom: SBTouch to Cambridge Soundworks Desktop Setup.
Living Room/Kitchen: RPi 3B+ running RoPieee to a pair of Morel Hogtalare.

All absolute statements about audio are false :)

Well that answers the question I had and makes me unhappy with HDT again.

But it's a downmix, not necessarily the same as the stereo tracks. What I think you would need are the stereo tracks from the BD to determine how/if the HDTracks download corresponds to it.

Sorry, I didn't understand. The above DR is from a Downmix of a multichannel Blue Ray?

This is the stereo over at HRA; if it is the same material it seems it is slightly more compressed. Doesn't look like a huge difference to me. Doesn't have that "super compressed" sound to me.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just bought the HD release today. Dowd's recordings are not audiophile calibre, but this is an excellent remastering. Good frequency balance, improved dynamics, better transparency and excellent stage width -- outside the edges of my speakers, in fact. The outtakes and Ludlow Garage tracks make this well worth the money.

Mac Mini, Pure Music, iTunes, Lynx Hilo, Merrill Taranis amp, Seta Piccola phono preamp, Phil Jones Platinum Reference One speakers, Sennheiser HD 600 headphones.
