joelha
Hi Dave, Your answers are as follows: USB cable: Kubala Sosna Realization cable (recently reviewed on Audiostream) Regen used on both converters DAC used with both converters: Berkeley Alpha Reference DAC AES cable: Kubala Sosna Elation Request to use my PUC2 Lite: No (But I appreciate the thought). Find a dealer with a return policy and do this. Joel Link to comment
Cycleman
USB cable: Kubala Sosna Realization cable (recently reviewed on Audiostream) So the PUC2 Lite did not need a two-headed USB cable, as they supply? That would be good news, since don't want to take up two USB ports on my computer. Request to use my PUC2 Lite: No (But I appreciate the thought). Find a dealer with a return policy and do this. Interesting when I went to the Yellowtec site to find US dealers that this link -- www.yellowtecusa.us -- came up as nonexistent. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Music is love, made audible. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Link to comment

Cycleman
This is where I got mine: YellowTec PUC2 Lite High Definition USB Audio Interface w/ AES3 Digital Audio I/O Only, GPI Ah thanks, but no returns there -- at Dale Pro Audio -- on "special orders" and the PUC2 Lite is a special order. But back to my other question, which might be a make-or-break thing for me: So did you find that the PUC2 Lite does not need a two-headed USB cable, as with the one they supply? Anyone else care to weigh in about what sort of USB cable they used to connect with the PUC2? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Music is love, made audible. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Link to comment
joelha
In my setup, I did not need a two-headed USB cable. A single-headed cable works great for me. Although now you have me wondering whether a dual-headed cable would somehow alleviate my issue with the 48khz limitation in Linux. I very much doubt it, but I'll have to check. Joel Link to comment
rossb
I don't recall even getting a two-headed USB cable with my PUC2. I use a single-headed Moon Audio Blue Dragon USB cable. I'm not sure it is better than any other USB cable but I like the colour. Link to comment
rossb
I should also reiterate that, good as the PUC2 is, adding the Teddy Pardo USB PSU (or an equivalent quality linear power supply) improves it still further. Link to comment

Joel Both the PUC2 and PUC2 Lite are bus-powered units requiring more than the USB2.0 spec. max. of 500mA, and that's why a dual cable is normally used. But not the type of separated power and data cables popularized in high-end circles--the Yellowtec needs power on both legs. The reason you don't need a dual-USB cable is because you are using our USB REGEN in front of the Yellowtec. The REGEN ignores 5V coming in on pin-1, and its best-in-class, TI TPS7A4700 ultra-low-noise regulator we dedicate to providing clean 5V--to DACs/converters needed it--can put out 1A. But when powering a Yellowtec with a REGEN, please don't feed the REGEN more than 7.5V, lest the drop to 5V combined with the abnormally high VBUS device draw will be asking the REGEN's 5V reg to dissipate more heat than we prefer. (7.5V feed drops 2.5V to 5V; 2.5V * say 900mA = 2.25 watts--that's okay.) A 6V or 7V supply to the REGEN would be even more comfortable if driving a Yellowtec. [Assuming this Joel is the same Joel A. that owns two UpTone JS-2 LPS units, then please set the REGEN's feed from one of them to 7V.] Ciao, ALEX UpTone Audio LLC Link to comment

joelha
I'm using the Uptone JS-2. I have two of them in fact. That should tell you what I think of the device. It's clearly better than the HDPlex I had been using. Joel Link to comment

joelha
Someone else might know off the top of their head, Yoga, but you'll want to check the voltage, amps, and power input (to see if it will take the plug of the JS-2) of the X100S and make sure all match what the JS-2 offers.
